Her silence quickly became a talking point, with trolls accusing her of being selective about the causes she chooses to speak on.

The debate grew louder after a viral Instagram post calling out Sonakshi’s silence appeared to have been liked by Vicky Kaushal. While a social media like does not necessarily amount to an endorsement of every word in a post, the interaction was enough to send the internet into another round of discussion.

Sonakshi’s Silence On August 15 Sparks Questions

Several posts circulating on X and Instagram questioned why Sonakshi, who had been posting frequently about student protests, did not put up even a single story for Independence Day. One viral post contrasted her earlier activism with her August 15 social media activity, while also taking a swipe at her for promoting work-related content with husband Zaheer Iqbal.

The criticism was largely centred on the perception that the actor had been outspoken when it came to certain protests but chose not to comment on the national occasion or the ongoing student agitation in Jharkhand.

The Jharkhand protests have continued over alleged irregularities in JPSC and JSSC recruitment examinations, with students demanding reforms and a CBI probe.

Sonakshi's recent social media history, however, shows that she has not exactly shied away from contentious issues. During the CJP-led student protests in Delhi, she repeatedly used her Instagram platform to voice support for the demonstrators and Sonam Wangchuk.

Following the alleged lathi-charge on protesters in July, Sonakshi shared visuals from the incident and expressed her distress over the treatment of students. She also posted about the Jharkhand student protests, sharing a reel highlighting the concerns of aspirants and writing that it was disheartening to see students going through such a situation.

Her earlier comments during the CJP agitation were particularly direct. Sonakshi had said she could not remain silent and questioned why authorities were not willing to engage in dialogue. Her outspoken stance earned her support from some sections of social media, while also making her a target for criticism and trolling.
