Ok, I have to start like Neeri ( Aanya) by saying that while I do agree with some parts of ur post, I don't agree with others, the first of them being ur POV about the interviewers. However, Neeri said exactly what I had in mind about them, and so i won't repeat it again.
Next about your POV regarding link ups- Yes, its true that they are a part of every actors' lives which Gurmeet himself said. However, deliberate bashing, mocking, insult and abuse cannot be and should not be a part of anyone's life. Neither Gurmeet nor his wife deserve it.U say that there is no point arguing over it when the actor himself has accepted it. I say, there is always a point in protesting against wrong, and whatever has been happening with Gurmeet and his wife including that interview is WRONG! He has accepted it.because he has no other option. What else can he do?He is so nice that he gave a reason why the bashers bashed...however, in that same interview,just a few seconds later, while describing how he and his wife felt when they read some disgusting and harsh things, his disappointment and his hurt was also clearly visible on his face...however, he still carried on gracefully, because he is a person who can't go beyond his sweet sarcasms, he can't be rude to anyone.
As far as obsessive fans are concerned, I agree to them it might be perfectly normal,but then, their obsession is actually having negative effect on the actors' personal lives, which can never be right.Yes Gurmeet respects his fans, but fans should also respect him, and more than that,they need to start not taking themselves too seriously. No matter how much credit Gurmeet gives to his fans, the fact remains,that he is where he is because of His talent, and hardwork. Everything else includng fans is important, but if he was not talented in the first place, nothing would have happened. Some of these "fans" make it sound like they have "made" him which is not true, because he did not beg them to like him, they loved him as Ram/MSK/Yash becoz they loved his acting, his persona, etc etc.
Now about why he took up the role of a father after playing the role of a Hot business tycoon like MSK which gained him a lot of female following...well, thats because he is an Actor, in the exact sense of the word, and not like it means to most nowadays. History proves that an Actor is someone who possesses versatality, the willingness and capability of moulding himself/herself in every role.He would have opted for a role similar to Maan if he (a) did not have the required amount of versatality (b) was scared to Act, and happy to live in the shadow of Maan for the rest of his life. The fact that he accepted the role of a widower with 2 children at this age and after playing MSK has increased the respect and love I have for him. And what more can be a testimony to the man's talent that every person who watches Punar Vivah now claims that No one else can even be imagined in the role of Yash!
And finally about what/who is popular/unpopular...well I agree with whatever Sadie and Janaki have said. According to me its wrong to judge popularity based on only online following (FB/IF and various other social networking sites). And that holds true for Tv, films, music,actors- everything.How do we differentiate between "popular" and "high trp"? This is something which i have always found funny. Do we mean to say that the general audience who watches a show, admires the actors cannot be termed as fans, because they are not obsessed with the show and its actors? because they don't come online?because they are not crazy about an actor or a character? So does it mean that a fan has to be totally crazy about the particular celeb he/she loves? Its almost like love can only be love when the lovers are overly passionate...well, in that case, I guess, most of the lovers in the world will fail the test. And in that case.I will also fail the test of being a fan.
Punar Vivah has more trps than GHSP ever had, yet PV forum has less active members.so can we jump to the conclusion that its not as popular? well, No, It might be not as popular on the net, it is certainly more popular (or at least as popular) in the real world.(not demeaning GHSP, but its a fact that PV is watched by more ppl, becoz it caters to a wider range of audience.not all people like Mills & Boons) I keep hearing PV's title music at 10:30 every night from my neighbouring flat, and even sometimes during the repeats...I never heard GHSP;s title track. Am I demeaning GHSP and Maan? well, no. Because I love MSK, and loved the first 7 mnths of GHSP...and just today I watched the repeat on Star Utsav.PV is being dubbed in Tamil and Telegu which ensures that it has a wider reach. The same can be said about Ramayan. It was very popular in South India, and many parts of North India, with really good trps. Throughout JDJ, Manish addressed Gurmeet as Lord Ram...After PV's first week,a newspaper review mentioned Gurmeet as the Lord Ram of TV..so, no people have not forgotten Ram.
