In South India, it is believed that Ganesh was elder to Kartikeya (it is told in the Ganesh Chaturthi story) so Murugan (Kartikeya) was not even present when Ganesh barred Lord Shiva from entering his own home.What is written in the Shiva Puraan?

some regions regard Ganesh ji to be older-beacuse Ganesh Ji is wiser,he is older in terms of brains as you can say it!

actually from what stories even i have read(ecept in the ACK where Kartikeya is fleetingly mentioned) Kartikeya isnt mentioned anywhere in the Ganesh Chaturthi story!

i wonder when will we get to see Kartikeya...

are we going to have that promo for a month?

In the Ganesh Chaturthi story, they describe how Ganesha became the 'Adipati' of all devtas, and the story goes like...Shiva and Parvathi tell their two sons that he who spans the entire universe first will become the Adipati. Kartikeya protests saying that he is faster so he should be Adipati, whereas Ganesha says he is the elder brother so he should be Adipati, but neither of them argue with their parents so they agree to the challenge. Kartikeya sits on his vahana (peacock) and begins racing across the universe while Ganesha becomes mournful becomes he knows he can never beat his brother on his own vahana, which is much slower. So he instead starts circumventing his parents whom he deems the entire universe, and much to Lord Kartikeya's surprise he sees Ganesha ahead of him no matter how far he goes. In the end, he admits defeat and accepts Ganesha as the Adipati.

This is the Ganesh Chaturthi story in South India at least. Is it different in the North?

There's another less popular story of his origin, found in the Brahma Vaivarta Purana: Shiva asked Parvati to observe the punyaka vrata for a year to appease Vishnu in order to have a son. When a son was born to her, all the gods and goddesses assembled to rejoice on its birth. Lord Shani, the son of Surya (Sun-God), was also present but he refused to look at the infant. Perturbed at this behaviour, Parvati asked him the reason, and Shani replied that his looking at baby would harm the newborn. However, on Parvati's insistence when Shani eyed the baby, the child's head was severed instantly. All the gods started to bemoan, whereupon Vishnu hurried to the bank of river Pushpabhadra and brought back the head of a young elephant, and joined it to the baby's body, thus reviving it.

Read this story as a child, after Karikeya & Ganesh were grown up, their parents decided to get them married. Shivji told both of them to do Earth's pradakshina, whoever comes earliest will be married first. Hearing this Kartikeya started immidiately on his vahan, Peacock. Ganeshji thought for some time, made Shivji & Parvati sit together. Did their pradakshina, 7 times & told them mother & father means the entire world for their children, so I have done your pradakshina, same as doing Earth's. Shivji-Parvati decided Ganesh has won. They got him married to Riddhi, Siddhi. When Kartikeya returned later, knowing this result, was hurt, that inspite of him being elder Ganesh was married first, he left Kailash & went to South.

So!!!Our little Chandragupta(rushiraj pawar) is back as Kartikey...wow,I was missing him since his role was over in CGM...Now we'll again see his brave stunts n hardwork...its a great news...
