First: how does this absolve me of my liability and how is this beneficial to me

There are two ways:

a)u will only be liable to pay to ur bank and creditors who have the claim, them being secured

b) if u can prove there is fraud involved, u might not need to pay to either of these, but I am not in favour of  the second one'coz that will mean innocent suffering coz they relied on ur name.

and that's not favorable.

"I hope not," she muttered.

He considered that for a moment. Then he gave a small nod.

"I think I might just have to do something about that."
