Chapter 7: The Concern

This wonderful moments lasted only for a few minutes when both of them realized abruptly what they were about to do. Ashutosh suddenly drew himself apart from Nidhi who in turn felt so ashame of herself. How did she do something like that she was thinking, and how could he take advantage of her physical estate at this moment all was coming to her thought at the same time. She was thinking how pervert this Dr Hardstone was really as he knows the state in which she was actually and he took this opportunity to do this with her. She was really feeling disgusting towards him and Ashutosh knew that Nidhi was thinking something like that sort of how could he be doing something like this. Nidhi thought he would apologize to her but nothing as such happen. He just pull himself apart and went towards the door and started to knock heavily on it. By that time Nidhi was sobbing hardly, covering her face with her hand and Ashutosh was feeling so guilty but couldn't even ask her to stop just as not to make her feel more guilty and embarrass.

Ashutosh was removing all his anger on the door by knocking it as hard as he could but due to his frozen hands he was unable to do much more than that. Looking back at Nidhi, he could only see her lying down unconsciously on the floor. He ran towards her and takes her in his arms and tears of guilt and pity were running down his cheek as he was so helpless to see her in that state. He called her name several time tapping her on her cheeks and supplicating her to pen her eyes but nothing much could be done. Due to the continued heat loss from her body, her blood flow was reduced completely giving her a sort of numbness, a reduction in coordination, strength and control. The blood temperature throughout her body was reduced due to the cold and he was afraid that this could harm her brain going to the second stage of Hypothermia. Ashutosh is well aware of the consequences of Hypothermia he knows that people have different abilities to resist it, people react differently to the same conditions and the proof was obviously he and Nidhi both in the same conditions but with different reactions, he only wished at this specific time that Nidhi was like him being able to resist it but unfortunately it was not the case.

This time Ashutosh shake her so hardly that for a few minutes she opened her eyes and looked at her. He was so happy to see her back again that he pulled her against him and crushed her tightly against him as he thought he was losing her. " Please Nidhi wake up, don't sleep" was the only words which came out from his mouth still with lots of tears in his eyes but with a large smile on his face. Now even Ashutosh was feeling himself weak and as if luck was on their side, when suddenly they hear some noise at the door. Ashutosh ran quickly towards the door and called for help as loud as he could and to his great surprise and satisfaction the door was wide open and could see so many faces around him. He was unable to recognize each and every one but could obviously recognize Dr Mallika and Dr Rangnath voices amongst them. Ashutosh was semi conscious also when they found him, he could only point out his finger to where Nidhi was and said "Dr Nidhi" and fainted in their hands. Mallika was shocked to see Ashutosh in this state and was unable to control her tears and hugging him and saying "nothing will happen to you Ashutosh, I'm here now" and when following her look to where Ashutosh was pointing she was irritated when she saw Nidhi lying down on the floor. "What are they both doing here" she yelled out and Dr Rangnath told her that this is not the right time for all her questions better take care of them and all her questions could be answered afterwards. Thank god that Dr Rangnath was present also and he asked the ward boys to carry both Dr Ashutosh and Dr Nidhi to a warm room, if it was only for Dr Mallika, maybe she would not care to look at Nidhi at all. All the way to the room Mallika was only thinking what the two was doing there and how come they closed the door. She was praying that they gain consciousness and answer all her questions that was rolling in her mind. Dr Rangnath was calling the interns to prepare the treatment for Hypothermia as he knew that looking at their actual state of health and their body was so cold as they have been stuck in there for quite a long time. Dr Mallika suggest that she will take care of Dr Ashutosh while Dr Pooja Mehta was called upon to look after Nidhi. Both were taken to separate room to start the treatment. After examining the two patients both Dr Mallika and Dr Mehta were thankful to God that they were not in the last stage of Hypothermia as this could have cost them their lives , but it's only that their bodies have lost so much heat and the quicker their bodies would be warmed up the better they will feel. The special treatment was given to both of them, their wet clothes due to the cold were removed on them and were covered with a thick blanket to warm them. The heater of the rooms were switch on to warm the room. A gradual raising of the temperature were monitored by the doctors. Since both of them were still unconscious heat absorption through the lungs were administrated to them and they were all hopping that the two doctors would gain conscious soon. The teams present carried a heated air respirator on them. These devices utilize a flameless low temperature chemical process to heat air carried in a small bottle. As both victims were still unconscious, the consulting doctors agreed to administer heat to them by pumping warm liquids to their stomachs. They slide a small diameter tube down the throat into the stomach. After checking its location hot sweet liquid were forced in the tube directly to the stomach. After a few hours their bodies' temperatures have increased and little by little they both regained consciousness but were still weak. Ashutosh slowly opened his eyes and Mallika was thankful to god as she sees this and hug him tightly "Welcome back to life Ashutosh" she said in a broken voice. He smiled forcedly at her and was looking all around him. "What's the matter Ashutosh what are you looking for? You are in the hospital, can't you remember what happened" Mallika said to him. "Where is Dr Nidhi, Mallika, is she alright" he asked with a concerned voice. Mallika tried to hide her anger at that question but reply that Dr Nidhi is out of danger too and he puffed a happy sigh on hearing this. Ashutosh wanted to get out of his bed to see Nidhi but Mallika told him that he is still weak and he is a doctor too so he knows he won't be able to leave the bed right now. But he was insisting to go when suddenly he remembered of what happened between them in the morgue and felt a bit resistent to go and see her. How would he be able to meet her eyes and what if he accused her of molesting her, what would be her reaction when she will see him? All these questions were haunting his mind and he remains on the bed and close his eyes.

Nidhi on the other hand also gained consciousness and when she opened her eyes all her families were here infront of her. She moved her eyes to Dr Rangnath and thanks him for doing so; she knew he was the only one who could have informed her family. "Welcome back to life Dr Nidhi" Dr Rangnath and Dr Mehta told her. After examining her, Dr Mehta assured CV and DB that she is out of danger now but she will need to rest more.

DB: "Mere bachi kya huwa tumhe?"

CV: "Bua plz Nidhi ko aaraam ki zarurat hein . Aap ke sawalon ka jawab bhaat mein"

Nidhi smile to her BB and was so thankful to him as he always understood her and he didn't bother to ask more after the explanation given to him by Dr Rangnath and he knows that Nidhi will surely tell him all of it later when it's the right time. Nidhi was looking around her as if looking for something she had lost. Anjie ran to her and hug her and told her that she was so afraid of losing her. Tears came out of both friends' eyes as they hug each other but Nidhi was still rolling her eyes here and there looking for that thing.

Anjie: " Nidhi kya yaar I'm hugging you and crying for you and you seems to be lost and looking for something, did you lose anything?" she asked her with concern.

Nidhi : " No, nothing like that it's just that I'm looking for huh…" she was unable to continue her phrase and looked at Dr Rangnath who knew exactly what she was looking for. By that time Dr Rangnath already observed that Nidhi had a crush on Dr Hardstone but never told her anything about this , but now he was very much concern about Anjie . He was trying to use his charm on her but Anjie keep trying to avoid his look. Looking back at Nidhi Dr Rangnath just say " Thank god we just got the news that even Dr Ashutosh is out of danger" and smile at Nidhi. This was all she wanted to know, this was the reason she was looking around her to find this answer of that question of "how he was? Was he ok?" But couldn't really ask this question to anyone, as she thought it would sound awkward. Now that she knew he was better she could relax little and pay more attention to everyone around her. How lucky she was, thinking that all her family was here with her in such a situation and thinking back to Dr Ashutosh she thought how lonely he should be feeling right now as he doesn't have any family except Hiraman Kaka , as she already enquire about Ashutosh surroundings and family before with Dr Rangnath and tears trickle down her cheeks while thinking about it, she quickly wipe it so that nobody ask her why she was crying. But she had this big urge in her to see herself and be sure that he was really fine. She wanted to get out of her bed and go look for him but how could she while everybody was still around. She was feeling quite guilty of what had happened because of her,had she not close the door all this wouldn't have happened she thought .She breathe in deeply and closed her eyes in order to try to forgive herself and in the hope that Dr Ashutosh will also forgive her of what she did.After a few hours Dr Rangnath came back in Nidhi's room and asked everyone to leave now as they have some more test to do on herand that she needs rest if they want her back home soon. They were all reluctant to go but Nidhi assured them that she was perfectly alright and after some rest she will be able to get back to normal again. Hearing this DB and Col Verma agreed to leave her. They all bid goodnight and left. Alone in her room Nidhi was restless on her bed, after being examined by Dr Mehta and she was happy to see the fast recovery of Nidhi , Dr Mehta told her that both of them were really lucky to have been saved on time otherwise this could have been fatal to them. Back in Ashutosh room Dr Mallika was still sitting by his side.Even HK had been informed about the incident and he was already by his side with hot soup. Mallika ask him to have some warm soup but he refused to take anything right now, he thanked Mallika to be so concerned about him.

Mallika: " Ashutosh please, you don't have to thank me, remember when were in college and when I was sick , you used to stay over for hours till I felt better."

Ashutosh: " I know Mallika, but still you should go and have some rest now, you see I'm better now and I will manage, don't worry." Mallka "So, Ashutosh would you tell me how all this happen? What were you both doing ther?" she questioned him with a suspicious voice. Ashutosh: "Please Mallika, can we talk about this later, please I wana be alone for a while, and by the way how is Dr Nidhi? Is she recovering? These entire concerned question came out instantly from his mouth. Mallika: "Ashutosh, I told you before she is fine you just ask this question few minutes back.Mallika knew there was something more than concerned being in the air whenever Ashutosh tries to avoid looking at her and she knew also if he doesn't want to say anything about it there were no reason to argue as he always stick to his word. Hearing this, he felt quite assured but then realizes of what Mallika told her that he's been asking this question before , how could he not remember, he thought, why this so much concern for that girl , he closes his eyes to find the answer but couldn't. Mallika finally agrees that she should leave him alone to rest and told him to call her anytime he needs her and that she will come to see over him later.

Alone in his room, Ashutosh couldn't rest as he should, he was still thinking about Nidhi, about this intense hug they had shared and about what would be her reaction now. He wanted to run and haste to go and see her and hug her tightly against him as he was so scared if anything should happen to her but he can't,and he shrugged while thinking about it.He couldn't get rid of her from his mind and this was making him feel quite uncomfortable, never ever had he experienced such a thing in his life. But it was too much for him to handle , he couldn't just lye on his bed like this, he had to see her and whatever would be the outcome he would bear it he thought desperately. He got out from his bed , opened the door and made his way directly to Nidhi's room. He pushed open the door to the room and gasped gently as he saw Nidhi lying in the bed eyes closed, motionless. He stood frozen, he couldn't move, if only he couldstay like this and look at her.The outdoor lights illuminated her face beautifully and he just stood there and stared. A grunt from the bed gained his attention and he smiled as Nidhi turned towards him, "Dr Nidhi?" he glided towards her, her eyes swelled with tears. " How are you Doc?" he asked passionately. She smiled brightly looking better than she normally does. Nidhi: " I'm feeling better Sir, what about you? She asked with an amusing smile. Ashutosh: " Same as you" he chuckled slowly. They both shared a hilarious smile. Both were quite embarrassed as for what happened between them yesterday, but none of them talked about it.Ashutosh was happy that Nidhi didn't tell him anything about the kiss, as he really doesn't know what he would reply as he wouldn't be able to lie and Nidhi also was thinking that maybe by now Ashutosh was regretting about the small private moments they shared yesterday. Ashutosh: " I am happy that you are feeling better Nidhi, otherwise , I don't know how I would have survive with this burden on me" he told her with a broken voice. Nidhi knew at the very second whathe was talking about, he was thinking that if she was dead , how he would have explained this to others but she wanted to hear it from her, she wanted to pull his legs now and she feels so happy when she makes him do or say things tha the really doesn't like to.

Nidhi: " What burden, Sir?"

Ashutosh looked back at her with a sympathetic face.He knew that she understood what he was talking about by looking at her mischievous smile. He was getting more and more angry and irritated also and just wanted to leave right away but a force was preventing him to leave her right now. " Dr Nidhi, I think you now what I'm talking about right?" Nidhi: " No Sir what burden are you talking about?" Ashutosh was feeling more and more frustrated and suddenly shouted " Damn it the burden that if you were dead,understand now, are you happy that I said it" Nidhi was shocked to see this sudden reaction of him. She is used tosee it ofcourse each and every day at the hospitalif not with the interns, with the ward boy , the cleaners, the nurse pff almost everybody got the chance of seeing Dr Hardstone reaction. Nidhi's hear thumped quickly and she looked away. Ashutosh suddenly realizes his reaction and felt guilty again to shout at her in this condition of hers. He looked at her with a culpable look and nidhi couldn't resist at that look. The way he was looking at her now was soft, caring, loving. A look that was totally new to her. It was driving her crazy . He came closer to her as if he wanted to tell her something in her ears and each time their faces were becoming closer and closer Nidhi's mind became blank. She didn't know what to think or what to feel, but something that reassured her was that Ashutosh's breath on her cheek,his eyes were locked with hers. His face moved closer to hers and she didn't move, or she couldn't really move. Ashutosh feelings for Nidhi became more apparent, real, her voice was sweet like maple syrup, and it made his heart thump, he couldn't restrain himself anymore. Ashutosh was scared while thinking how this girl could drive him crazy with just one look. One note of her voice drove him insane, he wanted her to see the real Ashutosh, the passionate man he was inside , he wanted her to know that he was more than " Dr Hardstone." He wanted her to see him " Ashutosh" the one he really was 10 or 15 years back. " Sir, I'm so sorry ,it's all my fault , all this happened because of me , I was so stupid to close the door completely and we could have both lose our lives beause of my stupidity" tears were falling down her cheeks while she was excusing herself to him. Looking at those tears and the sincerity in her voice Ashutosh could only do one thing, covering her mouth with his hand to stop her talking more. " Ssshh Doc no more talking" Nidhi could merely heard him saying this. Nidhi was left perplex and she was unable to understand the reaction of his boss anymore day by day she started to see a new face of Dr Hardtone and realizes that he is not that much of a " HARDSTONE". Nidhi was feeling quite flustered as she thought of how close his face was to hers.He moved in closer ducking his head down to reach her lips, he paused, making sure that this was what she wanted too, Nidhi didn't move, her eyes were closed as if waiting for the kiss also, she stayed still. When she opened her eyes she found Ashutosh looking at her in the eyes, his eyes were like a latte, bright and full of tenderness, better than the usual look of anger that he normally shows. Feeling that Nidhi was not pushing him back Ashutosh decided to go for it and he began to move further in, their lips centimeters away-" Ashutosh!!!" Damn it. Nidhi was the first to jump away from him, her chest was slightly heaving, and when Ashutosh turned to look at the door great was his surprise to see Mallika starring at them with an irritating look. Both Nidhi and Ashutosh were so engrossed with their feelings that they didn't even hear the door opening behind them. Looking back at Nidhi Ashutosh could see her flushed cheeks and was looking towards the floor and not making any eye contact with her, and ofcourse he could understand her. He was feeling guilty again for his act but how could he explain this to her and now what was he going to tell Mallika !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
