From what I've seen of the show, Game of Thrones is almost more of a medieval tale with all the Houses warring and only the dragons thrown in as the bit of fantasy...it's far more realistic, even almost period with the exception of that, I'd say. WoT plays to the type with all the magic, mythology and most especially the hero's quest/dark entity trope. Except for the genre...I really don't think there's much similarity between the two...maybe the wolves! They reminded me of Perrin 😆

@Bold: You're right about that...WoT I honestly feel LOSES it's way PRECISELY cuz it's tried to stuff in EVERY fantasy formula out there into the story...therein losing sight of what is actually the most important thing...the STORY!

If there is no good STORY to begin with, then the rest are all just gimmicks and lose threads...like a writer indulged himself a little too much.

GoT's biggest plus point is it's characterization...the greys in every character...the mistakes that everyone makes, the consequences of the mistakes, the way all of it is tied in...there are more magical elements other than the dragons btw but they are shown in a more subtle manner than any typical fantasy series...cuz it really isn't about the magic...not really at all...it's about the psychologies of the various characters, why they do what they do to get what they want...also I guess this is a much more GRAPHIC series than any usual fantasy series...maybe that's part of it's realism...it's very raw and in your face...

Re: the wolves...lol well they don't have as much to do in the story as I'd like so far...but I hope that they will ultimately...so far it's just hinted at...again it's different from a fantasy series in that respect...these aren't ordinary wolves yet it's something that's just lightly hinted at to make you think...they aren't overt about it.

Anu, we can agree to disagree, really...there's a story in WoT and the last book scheduled for this January is going to tie it up, meaning they have been building up and therefore being on track, my friend. Having read what, 11/13 books, I think I can say that much. You prefer GoT's writing, that's perfectly alright!

I do get your point...but I guess this is one series where I can overlook the usual HBO stuff cuz it is just that brilliant...going back to your own point from a few days back...different things challenge each of us in different ways no matter what our own core moral values are...your threshold on this one varies...fair enough.
