| This Deol believes in packing a punch without using his fists THIS is one Deol you won't see bashing in people's noses onscreen, if they refuse to abide by the rules of the land. One meeting with Abhay Deol—the Deol family's latest male offering to Bollywood—and it's obvious that this budding actor has no intention of becoming an action hero, as his surname might suggest.''There was a time when I was vehemently against getting into acting just because everyone expected me to,'' says the 30-year-old who nevertheless found himself enrolling in a Theatre and Fine Arts course at the Otis College of Art in Los Angeles, after a couple of years of regular college. And while his foray into Bollywood was made with the 2004 Socha Na Tha, he's looking at four of his films releasing by the end of this year. And no, none of them are angry-young-man sagas. ''People believed they could get some good action from the newest Deol boy, but after Socha Na Tha, they realised I had more of a soft, sincere, boy-next-door look,'' says the 6' 1'' actor who will be seen with Soha Ali Khan in Ahista Ahista, which releases this month, and has him playing a guy who makes money as a marriage witness. Another film, 1.40 Ki Last Local has him starring opposite Neha Dhupia. ''Dark comedy is my favourite genre and although the events and the situations in this film are anything but funny, the dialogue and the characters give it a black comic feel,'' he says. And, with Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd and Meridian, he gets a taste of being a part of multi-starrers as well. Of the former that boasts names such as Shaban Azmi, Dia Mirza and Amisha Patel, he says, ''It was a very hyper set since women made up 90 per cent of the cast, but it also ensured that everything was organised and things got done on time.'' While this film is a light drama about six couples holidaying in Goa, Meridian is an English film with Konkana Sen and Arjun Rampal, with urban living in Mumbai as its central theme.Deol's delights |
