Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav has finally secured bail in the much-discussed Rs 9 crore cheque bounce case, bringing a temporary sense of relief after weeks of legal stress. The Delhi High Court granted him bail on February 16 after he deposited Rs 2.5 crore towards the pending amount. The actor had earlier surrendered at Tihar Jail following strict directions from the court.
How The Legal Trouble Began
The case dates back several years and revolves around a financial dispute with Murli Projects Private Limited. Rajpal Yadav had reportedly taken a loan of Rs 5 crore, which later escalated to Rs 9 crore due to accumulated interest and penalties.
To settle the dues, the actor issued multiple cheques. However, those cheques bounced, leading to criminal proceedings under the Negotiable Instruments Act. Over time, the court gave him several opportunities to clear the payments. Despite assurances and a settlement agreement, the promised payments were not made in full.
On February 2, 2026, the Delhi High Court pulled him up for repeated non-compliance and ordered him to surrender. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma observed that his imprisonment was not merely because of a court order but due to his failure to honour the settlement he had agreed upon.
Surrender, Rejection Of Bail And Fresh Relief
Rajpal Yadav surrendered at Tihar Jail on February 5 after his last-minute plea for more time was turned down. His bail request was also rejected last week, with the court taking a firm stand on his repeated defaults.
However, the situation changed on February 16. After depositing Rs 2.5 crore, including Rs 1.75 crore paid recently and Rs 75 lakh earlier, the actor’s legal team managed to secure bail. The court granted him relief with certain conditions attached, offering him a breather in the long-running case.
Film Fraternity Stepped Forward
Amid the legal battle, several members of the film fraternity extended their support. Actor and philanthropist Sonu Sood publicly backed Rajpal and even suggested that filmmakers consider offering him advance payments for upcoming projects.
Reports also suggest that names like Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Varun Dhawan came forward with financial assistance. Others, including Gurmeet Choudhary, Elvish Yadav, Guru Randhawa, KRK, and Rao Inderjeet Yadav, are said to have contributed during this challenging time.
Rajpal Yadav, loved for his performances, now faces the task of resolving the remaining dues. While the legal case is far from over, today’s bail order marks an important turning point in the actor’s ongoing battle.
