How? When? will this Diya burn?

Since my previous thread brought up the main point of Diya aur Baati, and digressed from the original topic a bit...I thought I'll investigate the main premise of the show. I'm a relative newcomer to the show, so members I apologise in advance...

Diya = Suraj, Baati = Sandhya.

Diya = little earthen pot with oil

Baati = the cotton wick that rests in the oil and absorbs the oil

So far, so good. Both are needed. But where does the flame come from? Spontaneous combustion? Doesn't someone have to light the diya? Who does that? Us the viewers, with our loyal following? Or if it's divine intervention that we have to wait for, then so be it. I'll wait for the first flicker of a flame to come to LIFE. After that, Suraj can lovingly protect that flame from wind, hail and thunderstorms (Bhabo, at the moment).

I think it's fair to say that there's no flame there yet? I'm not even sure if there's any combustible oil in the Diya yet, or if the Baati is willing to be in the Diya, let alone absorb the oil. This is what happens when one character is so intertwined with the other. Catch-22 situation. Combustible oil needs a well primed wick.. If Sandy is busy elsewhere, putting out fires and troubleshooting, she's too exhausted to even say 'Hi' to Suraj. So oil left in Diya for too long, needs to be poured out and refreshed. Next, replace the Baati...then keep waiting for the flame...Fans get so impatient, we start looking for matches...we even manage to light the Diya...awww...seee!...that was so sweet!...the way Diya did this...how Baati did that...Not so fast! Bhabo the tornado snuffed out that slight flicker...

It's no longer possible to even say that they are both burning with the fires of suffering, coz I read that they are both having flashbacks of completely different experiences in their life together so far... they are not on the same page.

Perfect Analysis Hiral_madame
Sandhya (baati) has no time to think of Suraj (diya) with the Tornado/thunderstorm (bhabho) keeping her on high alert all the time...
Yes the flashbacks gave us insight into the characters minds... while Diya is hankering for someone to light the baati... Baati is too busy engrossed in some other problems
When will we get to see them in their right places that is baati within the Diya with the flame lit????

as usual excellently put together post.
i wish i had more time to interact on the forum but im so challenged of time that it makes typing even few scentences' reply a big challenge.
there are many factors if u dig real deep intot he analysis of diya and baati. like the wick eventually burns off and has to be replaced. or it can burn in another diya as well or may be much brighter than the previous one.
i mean if we go too deep into it so many things can come off.
but the hindi phrase was coined in terms of pati patni being soul mates and together lighting their home. it essentially means two human beings complimenting each other like no other, understanding each other even without speaking.
but here ... is sandhya made for suraj? or vice versa? alas we get very few of those surya moments to prove that.
we have an over dose of bhabho. the character is abhorrable but credible, we do have such controlling MIL's around, hence the son is dabboo in the first place.
sandhya finds him too passive. and i cannot blame her.
i mean suraj has all the rights in the world to stop his wife no matter what.
infact only he has the rights to let her stay or go. but he fails to assert himself. and for ho long.
the oil is love and flame is glow of happiness, contentment, fulfillment.
but right now bhabho has sucked that out . and i have no clue as to how and when the oil will be filled and the flame will be alighted.

also in real life thats how men's and women's mind work.
men think mil's taunts are not important but their love/sex is.
while mil's taunts hurt sensitive women so much that any other thought refuses to take hold. men think wives shud ignore their mothers taunts and be happy but for wives it is definitely not so easy. hence the discord between husband and wife.
this is true and is aptly shown.

@Juna04: Suraj hankering for someone to light the Baati? 😆 That sums up his character!

@vasu.avantika: I agree. Oil = Love. Glow = Contentment.
And, yes, men and women have totally different ways of thinking. But I would expect Suraj to have at least some regret about how Sandy was humiliated...he is a human being after all, and not an animal.

I loved your explanation and yes in a hindu myths there are so many interpretations one can derive...
But I would like Suraj to make the decision to let Sandhya stay this time as well just like he did not let her go the last time...
I would like him to do something and get Sandhya to stay before Bhabho makes her decision...
He needs to show some assertiveness here and this time it has to be openly done in front of Bhabho as it would be the right thing to do and he need not be offensive abt it if he puts out his points calmly and logically like he did the last time.

men are not so sensitive , hence he fails to relaise the true impact of bhabho's doings on sandy.

Here's the tragedy. Suraj is a sweetheart, and he is extremely sensitive and aware of Sandhya's situation...does whatever he can to compensate...but it always falls short, because at the same time...I hate to be blunt...he is spineless in front of his mother. 🤢
I'm not saying that he should be disrespectful to his mother, but there is a limit to indecency, high drama, and interference. He needs to stop leaning against the pillar, wipe his tears and put his foot down.
Someone please... I'm begging you CVs...someone other than Bhabo make a decision in this house...otherwise, things will only calm down until the next misunderstanding rears its ugly head.
Diya burning?...Probably not until Bhabo's dead...And by then it'll be pointless anyway...😆

Yes, diya burning would have meant that both would have understood each other's sukh dukh and shared in it together. Here he dwells on his sukh, she dwells on her dukh whenever they have privacy. rest of the time, they behave like automatons with no sukh or dukh in public.
