Badmash Dil
"Maansi!"
Aarthi jumped in delight at the sight of her best friend.
"How did you get here? Oh, silly me! I'm so happy you came over.. come .. come!"
Aarthi dragged her into the Sindhiya house. Maansi couldn't believe it, Aarthi was married to Yash for six months now! Time was certainly a strange thing. She wished 'namasthe' to Gayathri & bauji as she entered Aarthi's room.
"wow!" Maansi cooed, "what a lovely place to live in!"
Aarthi nodded smiling, "not only the place, people here are lovely as well."
She smiled as she thought of her husband who turned out to be the world's best gentleman ever! Then there was Prathik, she never had a devar & he was the cutest devar ever! Paridhi, Vidhi bhabhi, everyone including Gayathri was kind to her.
"Toh kaise hai humare hero no.1?" Maansi began.
"Yash ji.. woh toh daftar gayye hai!" Aarthi replied.
"Yash jee? Hayee kya baath hai? Matlab tu uski jaal mein phas hi gayi na? I knew he was such a flirt .. the way he acted & all -"
Aarthi stopped her at this moment, "Stop! Yash ji bahut ache pathi hai, ek ache pitha bhi hai... jithne ache woh hai.. usse kahee zyada acha unka dil!"
Maansi raised a brow, "what's wrong with you! I mean, he didn't try anything physical- like.. or is it because you are falling for him as well?"
"That's complete nonsense! Maansi I told you.. when we were talking on phone.. that Yash ji is a great person, he knows how to treat a woman, especially me! In these six months, never he has misbehaved with me.. He respects me & trusts me with his daughters! I respect him for that! And I don't want to listen to all that crap that you say! If you are here to say such rubbish about my husband.. then you may leave!"
Aarthi stood up & glared. Maansi winced.
"Sorry dear! Looks like, I was wrong to judge his character! Calm down yar.. if that's the case.. I'm happy for you.. you're my best friend after all.. "
Aarthi calmed down and apologised, "sorry for yelling at you.. but.. Yash ji ithne ache hai ki- "
At this juncture, a smiling Yash entered the room, holding Ansh by his ear.
"Ow! Daddy chodo!"
Yash laughed, "Aarthi .. look what he has done today! He made me wait for an hour so that he could talk to his GIRL FRIEND! God! Kya parvarish hai.. " he paused as he saw Aarthi was not alone.
"Oh stop it, dad! Mom is your girlfrien too! Before you married- " Ansh shrugged.
"Stupid social media!" Yash cursed under his breath as Ansh ran to hug his mother.
"Aap ki girl friend ko humse milaaoge?" Aarthi asked her son. Ansh just smiled and ran out of the room, "are slowly beta!"
Aarthi looked up to meet the eyes of her husband who looked a bit flushed, probably it was the heat.
"I - uh.. I'll see ya around!" Yash walked out.
"Wow!" Maansi exclaimed again, "you guys already became a family.. I'm happy yar! So happy for you.. toh bolo, apne Yash ji ke baare mein.. "
Aarthi smiled and began with a smile, "Bahut ache insaan hai.. sabse bahut pyar karthe hai! Especially his wife.. I mean, Arpitha.. "
Maansi sensed how Aarthi's tone changed a bit, as if she was sad.

The days went slow. Aarthi's life was perfect. The kids, Payal, Palak, Pratheek & others were as sweet as always. But she missed something, some connection.. some apnapan. She asked Maansi to visit her as often as possible to which the latter agreed.
"Oh god! You won't believe it.. but we fought again.. and I whisked the coffee cup on to him & he left!" Maansi began sadly, "marriage is like hell.. I'm glad at least you are happy."
Aarthi smiled. Is she.. happy?
Maansi looked around the room again & discovered Arpita's photos, "yeh yaha kaise.. I haven't seen them! Is she... Wow she must be lucky, Yash still loves her & poor Yash lost his love!"
Aarthi shifted uncomfortably but didn't answer her.
"Really, Arpitha bahut khoob surat bhi hai.. Yash aur woh kithne cute lagthe hai hai na? Yar tu sun- "
"What do you want to take- coffee or tea?" Aarthi diverted the topic, she felt awful these days, the way everyone is going on & on about Yash & Arpita.
"Coffee.. "Maansi answered hiding her smile.
They drank coffee, discussed a few girl things and then joined others who were picking up sarees for the upcoming sagai of Paridhi- Pratheek.
Maansi joined the sindhiyas as Yash & Aarthi were watching from far.
"That red saree is beautiful!" Aarthi remarked.
Yash nodded, "Red Arpitha ki favorite colour hai! Kash woh yahan hothi.. toh main duniya mein sabse lucky hotha! Par khai.. "
Aarthi's smile dropped as Yash said this. When he looked at her, she managed to smile, "I still miss her.. a lot! Do you miss Prashant?"
Aarthi's face tightened, "Prashanth?"
Oh right! What the hell she had been thinking! Yash was her second husband.. Theirs was Punar vivah.. but then why was it that she had almost forgotten her previous husband's name.
"Kabhi.. kabhi.. " she answered Yash, who apologised.
"No.. its okay! She's so lucky Arpita.. to be loved by someone so much.. so deep... " Aarthi trailed off.
Yash nodded again before leaving to join his kids in the garden.
"Arthi bhabhi! Come.. everyone picked a saree.. You are my best bhabhi.. So, yeah.. this red one! Its fab bhabhi.. red will look too-"
"RED! MUJHE NAFRAT HAI US RANG SE!" Aarthi was surprised how menancing she sounded. What was wrong with her! Why was she feeling bad now a days, when ever Yash declared his undying love for his deceased wife, something broke inside her. Was it her heart?
What else did she expect from him? First she blamed his character & despised him, assuming him to be a womanizer. And now.. why was she wishing he complimented her, why was she wishing him to adore her just the way he adored his Arpitha! WHY? Why was that her badmaash dill had somewhere down the line started beating for him? WHYYY?
"Sorry, Pratheek.. Hume patha nahi, kya hogaya.. "
Pratheek nodded, "its k, bhabhi.. I hope at least koi aur saree aapko ache lage.. "
Aarthi picked up a blue saree, fully embroidered one, and patted her devar's head, "thank you devar ji!"
"You're welcome bhabhi ji!"
~
"Aaj Arpitha ka janam din hai.. "Yash confessed as she caught hi teary- eyed one day.
"What did I do.. why was I cursed to be this way! I- I love her! Aarthi tell me why! You're my best friend.. ever since we agreed to be friend since our marriage day.. You are sure a great mother & a great person! You solve everyone's problems.. solve mine! I.. Why am I so unlucky.. " Yash sobbed as Aarthi placed her hand over his shoulder.
Yash pulled her into a hug, "kyon Aarthi.. "
Aarthi felt tears welling in her eyes, "humesha yeh possible nahi hai jinse hum pyar karthe hai, woh bhi hum se uthna hi pyar karein.. meri kismat aisi hai! At least you had her with you for a while & now.. you have her memories!"
Yash brushed his tears & released her, "thanks Aarthi.. I love you yar! You're my best friend.. I'm lucky that I have you!"
He walked into his bedroom, leaving Aarthi in the balcony.
"I love you too... Yash ji!"
