Ok so I realized today is the release of Rajeev Khandelwal's latest movie "Will You Marry Me". How many of you are aware of that or even who the hell is Rajeev Khandelwal? Ex TV star Rajeev made his BW debut 4 years ago in the critically acclaimed Aamir produced by UTV. His second film Peter Gaya Kaam Se got stuck and hasnt got a release till now. Few more movies including one with Prachi Desai were annouced but never got made. In between he hosted the controversal reality show Sach Ka Saamna for which again he got critical acclaim and good trps.
Then last year two of his films released including Shaitan for which he was critically acclaimed. Both his movies were backed by good studios like Viacom and Saregama. This year he returned to TV with season 2 of Sach Ka Saamna which went unnoticed and now looks like even "Will You Marry Me" will sink without a trace.
Inspite of all the critical acclaim and backing of his films by known studios Rajeev hasnt been able to make himself count in the film industry. He has nil star appeal due to which some of his movies are stuck in the cans or did not get made. He is not even considered for commercial projects by even smaller studios and production houses. Even Prateik Babbar's films have got a bigger release than Rajeev's irrespective of their BO fate. The directors he worked with have not repeated him and moved on to bigger stars. When UTV wanted to repeat him in Peter Gaya Kaam Se the movie was stuck. Rajeev is not even a part of the endorsements game and nor is he seen in any events or promotions so much so he didnt even promote "Will You Marry Me".
So what really has gone wrong with him? Has he lost out because he isnt charismatic or good-looking? But I would place him at par with Shahid Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan in looks. Is it that the industry does not care because he is an outsider without any Bollywood connections? They would sooner welcome a Prateik than Rajeev? In an era where there are limited stars in the 30+ category Rajeev could have made a mark in a big way but he seems to have fizzled out.
