So well written ! great post and great comments. Everyone here has said it all...
The intention of the CV s right now is to create a sense of outrage and feeling for Khushi by bringing her down to the lowest point so that her fight for justice and her victory will be that much sweeter. I believe it is the intention of the CVs to portray ASR as this jerk who will then make the difficult and painful climb to light and redemption.
if we are feeling disgusted, it means that the CV s are succesful. But they will fail miserably if after that, they are unable to show some serious grovelling and some serious work to keep the faith of the CVs.
A long time ago, when I read Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's novel Srikanto, I was disgusted by the portryal of women in it, all of whom seemed to be miserable and tortured till I realised and understood after some help from literateurs that this is deliberate. that readers/ viewers are drawn into the story by building up the pain of the protagonist. plus this was also reality of India
And lets face it, those of us who have internet and are relatively better off are not in positions like Khushi where she has to constantly battle social pressures of every kind. So it is going to be hard for us to understand her state. People like Garima and Bua exist. Trust me - I know. I have seen characters like that in real life in my extended family and community. and young girls have to fight to get basic rights like right to Post Graduation education, freedom to choose their partners.
The truth is that her reality is actually true in many homes and many smaller cities. These things do happen and I would rather have this portrayed on TV as long as the end message is strong and shows our Chamkili rise up from the ashes like Phoenix and give it as good and more than she gets.
I believe in the CV s becuase till now they have 1) managed to keep my interest despite an overdose of Indian festivals and Indian pujas 2) managed to show the character development beautifully..
Speaking of which Khushi also needs to grow up a little... she needs to be less of a pushover for her family and I hope the CVs will show that.
