Divya Bharti was at home on the 5th story of an apartment building with her designer friend Neeta Lulla, Neeta's husband Shyam and Divya's maid Amrita.
Apparently Divya had drank some whiskey (how much no one has said, even after post-mortem reports) and had climbed over her balcony window and sat on the tiny ledge below the window. How she managed to do that is peculiar. Whether she fell by accident, suicide or some other reason is unknown. A lot of things have been assumed- some say she was in depression and was suicidal and loved high adrenaline. Others say she must have slipped by accident. Others say that the underworld and Sajid's connections there had something to do with it.
Roshmilla Bhattacharya from Hindustan Times recollection:
"I remember the day…April 6, 1993. I'd just stepped into the office when I was informed that Divya Bharti had been shot. "Who took the pictures? Gautam Rajadhyaksha or Rakesh Shrestha?" I enquired. My colleague responded by saying he wasn't talking photographs. "She's been gunned down, I'm told the underworld is involved," he whispered. I dismissed it as just a rumour, but within minutes, the news was confirmed that Divya was dead."
I think the weirdest part about her death is how she managed to sit or why she wanted to sit on that ledge.
There are thousands of Divya's fans who are trying to gather support online to have her case reopened. It has been futile so far. May she RIP.
