Actor Ranbir Kapoor's last release may not have set the cash registers ringing at the box office but this is not the first time he had to go through disappointment. His debut filmSawaariya too faced disastrous results at the box-office but that hasn't deterred the actor from taking on criticism head on.
"There is no pressure. When I came in I had to live up to the legacy of Kapoor. Acting is not a thought in my mind; I do with my instincts and heart. I love acting and being on the set. The frills that come with it, I am not paying attention to it. Saawariya was bad, it was a disaster. It is difficult for me to pick up but you learn. I have no regrets; I am what I am because of that film. You have come into the world and you have to fight hard, keep going. It is all a part of the game."
Ranbir is in fact perfectly okay with the frills that come with being a celebrity. Often, actors complain that they cannot have a personal life and everyone is interested in knowing what they are upto – something Ranbir is fine with. "While growing up, we were never taken to a film set. We were shielded away from that. My mother never spoilt us. Stardom is great and it gives you so much of love, fame, money, respect and that is the price you pay so I can't complain. I don't have a problem when fans recognise me and ask me for an autograph. My privacy is not affected in any way. Even today, I can do whatever I want, walk on the road wherever I want. I don't have a problem with stardom."
His much talked about friendship with actor Imran Khan too, he says is exaggerated. In fact, most of his relationships that get written about are exaggerated. "I am written about for my relationships when in transit, when there is nothing for me to talk about. I am not saying everything is a lie. Most of it is true, but it is exaggerated and glamourised. In reality, Ayan Mukerjee and Imtiaz Ali are the only friends I have, the rest are colleagues.
They are all positive and sweet but they are not friends. Similarly, Imran and I aren't friends, we know each other.He has his own life and I have mine. His success or failure doesn't matter to me and same is the case with him. We have our own lives. He is a lovely person and is happily married. We hang out and he is a very nice guy but really, that's about it."
