There isn't much competition for Priyanka Chopra after all; well, on-screen at the least. Though Lara Dutta's inclusion in DON 2 had made quite a few speculate whether it would end up eating into Priyanka's leading act in the film, all such fears can well be discounted now. Four weeks prior to the release of the film, the makers have confirmed that Lara would be billed as a 'special appearance' in the Shahrukh Khan starrer. This means that Priyanka stays on to be the one and only 'junglee billi' in the film.
"Yes, this has been a joint call taken by all involved,' confirms a source attached to the film, 'It has been decided that Lara would be billed as only 'special appearance' since she doesn't have an extended screen time in the film a la Priyanka. Of course it is critical to the film's plot and not just a cameo. However since she appears only for a while, it would have been unfair for the actress to be labelled as a leading lady when that is not really the case."
The argument does make sense since Priyanka and Lara had started their career together in ANDAAZ and were seen as parallel leads opposite Akshay Kumar. For them to share screen space after eight long years and not get an adequate billing as per the screen time would indeed have been unjustified.
When contacted, film's co-producer Ritesh Sidhwani confirmed the news. "Yes, Lara would be billed as a 'special appearance' in DON 2. She is a pivotal character in the film though." 🤣
Well, here is hoping Lara is feeling 'special' about that as well! 😲🤢
