Good article, not to mention a positive one for once!
As others have rightly mentioned already, a show's popularity cannot be measured on the basis of its trps alone. The trps of GHSP may be low but that is not a correct reflection of its popularity. The jodi of Geet and Maan and GurTi chemistry is testament to the show's success and how much it is loved. It is a show targetted at the youth and that is why it is largely watched on the net.
It would be extremely unwise for the channel to let go of the show after the revamp, on the basis of trps. GurTi winning best jodi, youtube VM and epi frenzy and the buzz on IF just goes to show that GHSP has a cult fan following :)
