VJ Ayushmann's Bollywood debut

VJ and TV anchor, Ayushmann Khurrana, will be another name on the list of video jockeys who have transitioned to the silver-screen. Reportedly, Ayushmann will debut in Shoorjit Sircar's film, titled Vicky Donor. And just like his fellow VJ Purab did for Onir's film, Ayushmann too will reportedly play a sperm donor.

A source told us, "Ayushman plays a Punjabi cricket player, who donates his sperm. He is in love with a Bengali girl, essayed by television actress Yami Gautam."

When contacted, Ayushmann said, "I attended theatre workshops with Prof N K Sharma in Delhi to get that 'Dilliwala' feel. It wasn't difficult, since I am from the North."

Director Sircar told Mumbai Mirror, "Ayushmann and I have been meeting doctors and donors from Mumbai and Delhi, since 2009. Ayushmann has an immediate connect with the younger generation. For the part of Vicky, I wanted a face that was easily identifiable and yet unexposed in cinema.

VJ-anchor Ayushmann's film debut as sperm donor

Mumbai, Oct 7 (IANS) After Ranvir Shorey, Purab Kohli and Ranvijay Singh, it is time for another VJ to rock the cinema world. Active as a television anchor and VJ, Ayushmann Khurrana will now be seen on the big screen in Shoorjit Sircar's quirkily titled film, "Vicky Donor".

Ayushman plays a Punjabi cricket player-sperm donor in love with a Bengali girl, to be played by television actress Yami Gautam, known from the soaps "Chand Ke Paar Chalo" and "Yeh Pyar Na Hoga Kam".

"'Vicky Donor' is not a serious take on the subject of sperm donation. I want to take a light-hearted look at the taboo attached to infertility and artificial insemination," says director Sircar.

Sircar has been researching the subject for the past three years.

Ayushmann was chosen because of his popularity among the younger crowd.

The "Roadies" winner who's been anchoring several musical shows on television, has been meeting medical experts to study the subject of sperm donation. One of the top consultants in the field has been taken on board as the medical adviser for "Vicky Donor".

Says the director: "Ayushmann and I have been meeting doctors and donors from Mumbai and Delhi since 2009. Ayushmann has an immediate connect with the younger generation. For the part of Vicky, I wanted a face that was easily identifiable and yet unexposed in cinema."

Ayushmann says he has been studying acting.

"I attended theatre workshops with professor N.K Sharma in Delhi to get that 'Dilliwala' feel. It wasn't difficult since I am from the north," he says.

Ayushmann claims to have turned down three films in favour of "Vicky Donor", because of the "unique subject and the director's credibility".

Annu Kapoor turns Dilliwala for his next VICKY DONOR

Now before you frown and make opinions, here's the catch! Actor Annu Kapoor is acting in Director Shoojit Sircar's next movie VICKY DONOR. And in the movie he plays the role of a happy-go-lucky bachelor from Delhi, Dr. Chaddha. Has the cloud cleared now?

Vicky is under constant consultancy of Dr. Chaddha who advices him to donate what he is reluctant of. "A 52 years young bachelor, Dr. Chaddha is a very interesting character, a complete Dilliwala and a character that I haven't played before for sure who is very particular about his things," shares Annu Kapoor.

After 7 KHOON MAAF, where he has played the role of Inspector Keemat Lal, Kapoor will now be seen playing the role of a doctor who has a clinic in Dariyaganj, Delhi. The turf and language of Delhi is not new to Kapoor. Being the National School of Drama alumnus, Kapoor is quite at ease playing the role of a Dilliwala. "I was in Delhi in the mid-70s studying at NSD. It was a different time all together. For one, there were no flyovers and now when I see Delhi, it has changed quite a bit and for better I see. After more than 3 decades it feels good being in Delhi again when we are shooting with the whole cast and crew of VICKY DONOR here," he says.

About being a part of a movie with Shoojit Sircar and the script of the movie, Kapoor feels, "Shoojit is a filmmaker with a vision. And that's what we need for Indian cinema today. As far as the script of this movie is concerned, I think Indian audience is ready for a movie like this. It is the right time and I am sure when the audiences see this movie, they will enjoy it completely," he says. Film is being shot in Delhi at present.
