Great discussion.

Minnie, thanks for sharing your FIL experience. As a wife of only son and only brother, I have gone through your experience, so was to some extent, reading pages from my own life.

Relationships are complex, but people tend to complicate them more. A person has every relationship in its place, and as long as people don't get threatened by someone else, we will all get along fine. Communication is important, but having faith and security in a relationship is equally important. If MIL or FIL know their places in son's (or daughter's life), they should understand that no one can take their places, so why not get along and make their child's lfe easier!!! Oh well...easier said than done.

I agree that people in this day and age still believes that once a daughter becomes DIL, her life as daughter has ended. Unfortunately, same people do not treat their own married daughter (someone else' DIL) that way...

Thanks again for starting the realistic spin-off story, JP.

Unfortunately so......😕

For eg, My FIL used to get so angry when my Sister-in-law was asked e to change a few food habits becuase her inlaws wanted ( like she was asked to include fish in her routine which she did not like and never did as asked), while he made it clear in no uncertain terms that I was not only expected to not to discriminate against any food, be it pumpkin or cabbage, I was ordered to finish the food not only on my plate but the left overs on the table as well.....🤢🤢

Well, it took my angry ,'I am not a dustbin' line to my husband loudly to draw the line....😆
