One more thing to add...
I can completely relate to someone like Kajol, who balances her family and career and looks like a train wreck without her make-up on...I have done that too and I look like a train wreck even with make-up on! So Kajol the actress does represent one part of me!
But I cannot identify with someone like Simran from DDLJ, who daydreams about her knight in shining armour and agrees to marry the first boy her father selects for her! And that too after being born and brought up in a place like London!

For the initial question, the fashion sense of an actress does make an impression on the junta sure. Actually, a lot of people have approached me, since they have a watched a Bollywood movie here or there, and have asked why our actresses are so light? Personally, I believe color is factor (unfortunately) in the success of an actress. Look at Kokona Sen Sharma...she's a much better actress than most of the present commercial ones we have but I don't think she will ever have the impact they do. I wish she did though, she deserves it.

The only one who sticks out in my mind is Bipasha but she's not in the top 5 or so of the actresses of today...maybe she might one day?

haha i'm from canada and omg please save the world from snooki's hahaha. yah the skin color thing is unfortunate but i think over hyped. there are plenty of dark skinned beauties like deepika, pryinaka, rani but i guess they come under medium skin tone. but konokana might not be the best commerically but i think still as an actress she is the most respected. i think shes jsut taking a break after her marriage but she will get roles for sure. it's just that our industry has now become a race about how many brands can you endorse instead of how many quality movies can you make. it's kinda sad. i don't even watch movies any more, they lost their charm.
