November 15, 2010 - Monday
Yesterday started with a drunk Rishabh coming home to physically abuse Uttara after being fired from his job due to Brahmanand's interference. Nothing new revealed or old resolved, but...it was so real and painful to watch.
At the same time, Gaurav is sitting outside Vidya's house cracking jokes with who I assume are Vidya's family members. But the moment he realizes Vidya was eavesdropping on his conversation, a light smile flits across his face...sign of growing affection or something more...remains to be seen. Then of course the car in which they are returning breaks down and the two end up at a hotel that just happened to have the "honeymoon suite" as the only room available. As I was watching this, I kept groaning at how cliched everything was till the precap gave away the suspense that Devyani had arranged it all. Now...I love how you are making predictable plots work for you but the effect would have been far better had your editing team not revealed this in the precap.
So, its no surprise that Gaurav immediately confronts Devyani about her interfering in his life. Based on this and the past few conversations between these two, I am feeling like this secret is gaining momentum and will reach its first crescendo soon.
Aditya on the other hand is sitting in a hotel room in Ghaziabad with Jaggi and thinking of Priya. The light bulb does finally go off in Jaggi's head long enough to have him suggest that Aditya open the wallet to see whose it was...thank god for small mercies. Aditya's running around chasing random women in red was annoying to watch last week. With all the characters available in this show, there should not be a need to adopt silly plots just to drag the screenplay and fill the episode.
Meanwhile, at home, Babuji overhears Devyani's conversation with Gaurav. I've said it over the weekend and I will say it again...I love the interpersonal dynamics between these characters. Babuji keeps shining the light on the mirror that Devyani does not want to see. I love the parallel he draws between his memories of Devyani as a young bride with dreams in her eyes and Vidya. Now when I see Vidya, I will see what Devyani used to be before she became the abused wife of Brahmanand. This is yet another example of the writers showing the different sides of the same coin...beautiful touch. Devyani's words in this scene, on the surface, indicate that she does not want Vidya's life story to mirror hers but is it doomed anyway like Babuji's "Tari Vidya ko tara Gaurav woh kushi de sakega kya?" seems to imply?
Back at the hotel, Vidya is taking her grandmother's advice to heart and putting on her best seductress show for a very uncomfortable Gaurav. This was wonderfully executed! Everything from the choice of song, to Vidya's innocent moves, to her clumsiness to Gaurav's closing smile...perfect! The only spoiler for me was the volume of the song...it made it hard for me to hear what Gaurav said at the very end. Oh well...still...I loved it!
The episode closed with Uttara sitting on the bed staring at a sleeping Rishabh...knife in hand.
Overall...it was a fabulous episode.
Loved:
- The acting chops of the entire cast: I keep waiting for somebody to disappoint...but, kudos to the team...they keep delivering spectacular performances episode after episode. I especially want to call out Kamya for that very last scene. Her eyes expressed the state of her mind just perfectly.
- Yesterday's screenplay: It was just right! I feel like a broken record but I keep waiting for the day when you will not deliver and so far, I have not had to experience that disappointment.
- Vidya trying to play the seductress: This was such a well-done scene and for once, the song used was just right!
Disliked:
- The scenes used in the precaps: I am enjoying the journey of watching this series so much that I do not want to see too much revealed in the precaps. For example...I wish today's final scene had been focused simply on Uttara's face watching a sleeping Rishabh while the precap should then have expanded that shot to include the knife.
Cheers,
Jaya
