Geet : Of the Past, the Present, and Transcendence'

Star One's Geet'Hui Sabse Parayi, one of its more successful shows of late, stands at a very crucial juncture in the lives of its lead characters. This week saw Geet returning to the land of her past, Hoshiyarpur, to save Maan from a lawsuit, and facing a dj vu of everything she had left behind. Memories of her marriage, of Dev's betrayal, and her own brother's attempts to kill her when she refused to abort her child. His vengeance and spite continuing to haunt her life, she was nearly killed, once more. But this is a time for second chances all over again, and she escaped with help from Maan, the present that has been standing in opposition to the horrors of her past all along.

Geet and Maan have both accepted their love for each other, the only difference being that while Maan has expressed it, Geet keeps holding it back. The past few weeks have seen her trying to run away from the happiness this love can offer. Try as she might, she can't seem to find the courage to step out from behind the shadow of her past. She carries a very tangible marker of it with her, after all. But the question is, can she not live with that past, and accept the present for everything it has to give her? Where life is giving her a second chance, can she not give life a second chance too?

Maan, as temperamental and egoistic as he may be on the surface, deep down inside he's like any other man madly in love. Accustomed to having everything he wants, Geet's apparent disdain for his feelings quite amazes him. Of course, it would have been a lot easier if it were a more consistent disdain. Because Geet has feelings for him too, and she's not very good at concealing them beyond a point. Confronted with an apparent rejection, and then a million mixed signals, has been frustrating Maan. His hope, however, is very much alive. And he is every bit as protective of, as concerned about, and as tender with her as though her negation of his feelings barely matters. As though he knows, somewhere, that there will come a day when she'll learn to trust him with her heart.

Along with this, an anticipatory undercurrent also underlies everything that is happening, since Dev is, after all, Maan's younger brother. And there cannot be too long a while before Geet finally comes face to face with him, as well as the fact of who he really is. That will be the moment when her past and present will converge, in some sense, and one must admit that it would be very interesting to see how she handles it. Can Geet ever really leave her past behind? Or will she succeed in transcending it, discovering in her present a path to a better, happier future? We shall have to wait and watch.

A very well written article, I loved how it describes Maan's feelings for Geet. He's protective and caring and hopes she trusts him enough to share her sorrows with him one day. Beautiful!

Well written article explaining everything that the show had portrayed. Geet will surely transcend her past, tackle the present and take on the future, all with the help of Maan who has been much more than just her saviour.
