Years after the passing of Hindi cinema’s first superstar Rajesh Khanna, new statements about his personal life have surfaced once again. Anita Advani, who has previously spoken about her association with the late actor, has reiterated her claims in a recent interview, bringing the focus back to their relationship and the circumstances surrounding his final days.

In a conversation with senior journalist Vickey Lalwani, Anita stated that her relationship with Rajesh Khanna was similar to that of a married couple, even though it was not formally recognised. Speaking about the same, she said, “We were like husband and wife. There is nothing to hide-it was a personal matter. I was comfortable, and he was very comfortable.”

She also repeated her claim about a private ceremony, saying, “He applied sindoor and gave me a mangalsutra… we had a small private ceremony.” These assertions have been made by Anita in the past as well and have not been officially confirmed by the Khanna family.

Addressing speculation around her intentions, Anita said, “I come from a family of givers, not takers. I was with him because I loved him-not because he was a superstar or had money.” She also spoke about the limitations of the relationship, adding, “I knew marriage couldn’t happen. The demands from the family were too much.”

Rajesh Khanna was married to actor Dimple Kapadia. The two had two daughters, Twinkle Khanna and Rinke Khanna. Although they were separated, they were not legally divorced.

Anita further stated that her concerns are related to dignity and how she was treated. “I don’t have the life I had. I want dignity. And the misbehaviour with me… it was very painful,” she said.

She also spoke about not being allowed to meet Rajesh Khanna during his hospitalisation. Recounting her experience, she said, “They didn’t let me meet him in the hospital. They said he didn’t want to see me… so many lies were told.”

Rajesh Khanna passed away in July 2012 after a prolonged illness. Anita Advani’s statements have once again brought attention to her claims regarding her relationship with the late actor and the events that followed.
