Make no mistake, every musical show has its pros and cons and USPs. SRGMP has quality, despite getting the reality tag after 2005.

But for me, the "original" version hosted by sonu nigam was and will still remain the best. Simplicity, quality, understated elegance and high caliber judges and singers. Amazing songs too. Like relieving pure Indian classical and contemporary music at one stage.
Yes, because old will always remain gold. and I hope that all members here will agree with this.😊

Yes ofcourse the original SRGMP was the BEST. Earlier the atmosphere was more musical, all the judges like kalyanji anand ji, usha mangeshkar etc were true music lovers & their knowledge of indian classical music was great. They respected each other & I dont think so there was any politics or arguments but only pure music. Original SRGMP even gave good singers like shreya ghoshal & kunal ganjawala to our music industry & not only that but the hosts sonu & shaan also came into spotlight. Today we have so many singers win by public votes but donot make it big.
Today music looks more of business & politics or drama. Its only about votes & judges fighting all the time for show trps whereas earlier though trps were important but there was no hunger for trps as such now the competition is too much. But nothing can be done as people are also looking forward more entertainment than quality music.
Just compare the atmosphere in both these videos:

Hunk said it all...

when music is being treated as a source of income then music itself...quality of singers might be there but then whether it is really being treasured and exposed is another matter. The public voting (so called) and the competition mode, grand finale and all are just a source of monetary income and fame. Whereas in old days, it's a hub of musical talent where music is the only thing that matters, people share their talent and appreciate each other.

but what can they do, the channel people. Nowadays all people want is entertainment....

Today all the reality shows are more or less commercialized. Channel invests where it gets more return rather than focusing more on talent. But out of all the shows, still SRGM is better I guess.

There is no doubt the original Sa Re Ga Ma was better but let's hope that the current version lives up to the expectation. Since the show has just started and I liked the two episodes so far, I am keeping my finger crossed.

Recently in an interview with telebuzz ....Siddharth Basu ..the producer of color's India's Got Talent ( also KBC , JDJ etc ) said in an interview with telebuzz .." It's sad that the television industry is taking this benchmark too seriously.

We have 129 million viewers and how many sets are taken into account for TRP measurements? Just 7000 odd!
Our 25,700 Crore industry is living day to day under the tyranny of TRPs"
As Hunk posted that spoof video in another thread ... is TRP ke chakkar mein phas jaatey hai poor singers ...and what % of viewers this so called TRP is taken into account ??...not even 1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😲...
Yet producers , channels , advertisers are all running after this TRP and the quality is being compromised ....why do we, the mere viewers, who understand it so well become so difficult for those money spinners to comprehend??..well the q should be when will they realise?? ..This is beyond me ....
Original SRGMP had quality as well as a learning experience for the viewers as well....ya ..last year when i was watching those golden moments of SRGMP featuring late naushadji, O.P Nayyar ji, ..and other living legends, I was thinking , well, those were indeed golden years of SRGMP ....
Today the atmosphere has been commercialised so much that a good singer slowly gets lost ..and the judges become cartoon characters ...
All we can do is hope for the best ...Hope the producers realise if Junoon kuchh kar dikhane ka can be popular and do well for NDTV imagine ..the old format of SRGMP with focus on true musical talent(and less drama) will do so too.....😊
nice topic Sid....

The original Sa Re Ga Ma was the best for sure!

It was the best singing show til date. I was quite little when it was on so I couldn't watch many episodes. But my interest in music grew from that show. The hosting by Sonu, the judging, the different rounds - everything was so elegant.

Even though I was only 7 or 8 years old, some scenes from that show are so powerful that I still remember them. I used to love watching the 'chord rounds' where singers would have to sing a few lines at an altered scale - it showed people just how much hard work, concentration and beauty is packed in just one sur.

Then there was an episode with a senior classical dancer or singer as judge. I don't know her name, but she had a big red bindi 😆. At the end of the show she said something which impressed me a lot: 'Sirf gaane ko riyaaz nahin kehte. Gaana toh jhaadu karne wali bai bhi roz gaati hai. Riyaaz hota hai roz subah uthke, Sarswati Maa ke aashirwad se sur ka riyaaz karna.' Wah wah wah what a line!

The most amazing moment of Sa Re Ga Ma was when Abida Parveen came to the show as a guest. I missed the whole episode, but I caught the last five minutes when she was giving her own little performance of 'Dumadum Mast Kalandar'. That was just WOW and it changed my life. Today the most played artist on my iTunes is Abida Parveen. 😃
