Jaipur has a lot of talent: Naushad Ali
TV show participants, Naushad Ali Kawa from Jaipur and Swaroop Khan from Jaisalmer, are willing to go that extra mile for their respective cities
Talented singers like Raja Hasan, Toshi and Ravindra Upadhyay from Rajasthan have proved their mettle in singing reality shows on television. And now two more young contestants from the state on Indian Idol 5, who are already enjoying their share of popularity say that just being from the state gives them the confidence and strength to work even harder. Both Swaroop Khan from Jaisalmer and Naushad Ali Kawa from Jaipur, who are feeling the pressure these days say that more than the dreams of their loved ones, it's for the people of their cities that they want to win the contest for. "I know that Jaipur has a lot of talent. Even in the area, where I live here there are a lot of people who are brilliant singers, they just lack opportunities. My entry on the show has given them the confidence that even they can do this," avers Naushad.
For Swaroop, who hails from a village in Jaisalmer, the very fact that he is on television is a matter of pride for him and his family. Says Swaroop, "I come from a family of Manganiyars and all my life I have been singing folk songs. I didn't know any Bollywood song before coming on this show. My entry on it is a matter of pride not just for my family but also for the people of my village. Every time they see me on TV, they are so happy that I just wish that I can win this show for them."
Both the contestants have a musical background and have been performing in their respective cities. While Swaroop used to sing folk songs with his father, Naushad says that the only option available for him to get noticed was singing in the city hotels. "I was basically a ghazal singer and used to sing in various hotels in Jaipur, where people hardly paid any attention to my performance. So now when I perform on such a big platform, it's nothing short of a dream come true for me. Now when I talk to my fans, I feel strange but happy too," he smiles.
As contestants on the show, right now they are putting in a lot of hard work. The only relief for Naushad is the company of other contestants, as for Swaroop it's just more hard work that takes his mind off the pressure. "I didn't even know how to pronounce 'sh' and on the show I had to sing different kinds of songs. So I am really scared and nervous most of the times and I work harder to improve my skills. The only thing that matters to me is to improve my performance, so that even if I don't win the show, I have some scope in the music industry," says Swaroop.
