"Oh chutki..im so sorry.. i was so self centered,so selfish to gain a name for my self that i did not bother to check on u guys.. i will never forgive my self for this" his voiced choked with emotion.
"Milsi.. you are so bad at this.. even to this day.. stop it" she forced a smile on her face and wiped his tears away.
"look at you chutki..you are no longer the school girl i remember who pestered me for chocolates"
"And look at you ..you have grown into a handsome and grumpy bear.. who is ready to bite off a poor girl's head beacause she hurt his sweet heart!" she turned away from him crossing her hands over her chest.
"Im really sorry..dekho main apne kaan bhi pakad rahaa hoon.. hey.. wait a minute..how do you know??" Milind asked her puzzled.
"Please Milsi..now you are insulting my intelligence" pari laughed seeing his expressions.
It felt good to see her laugh again.He could see the traces of childhood still present in her innocent face.promising himself never to hurt her again he hugged her happily.
neev who stood at a distance was shocked.the sight that met his eyes disturbed him.Milind never hugged a girl as far as he knew.But here he was stroking the girl's hair and hugging her with so much ompassion.something didnt feel right about it.He coughed to make them aware of his presence.
"Oh Neev.. accha hua tum aagaye..chutki neev ki taraf se main maafi maangtha hoon tumse..hum dono bahut hi sharmindha hain apne behaviour ke liye.."
"Dude..i was feeling bit guilty ok.. i admit..but please do not use 'sharminda' type of words. i didnt feel that" Neev retorted.
Now it was Milind's turn to be surprised.Neev was always sweet in his words when it came to girls.
"Its ok milsi.. i understand.. Di is his best friend.. i quite understand"
"Milsi??.. Milind sir se Milsi... that was fast" Neev exclaimed not troubling to keep his voice low.
"chalo ..lets celebrate..chutki get ready..three of us are going out" Milind said eyeing Neev to gauge his reations.Neev readily agreed.All that Neev wanted to do was to put as much distance as possible between milind and this girl.Nobody can take Prachi's place in milind's life.
"No Milsi.. its my treat today.. My boss used to pay me well u know" she smiled sadly.
"And your boss is pretty strict too.. he expects you to be on time tomorrow in the office" Milind smiled at her.
"Where are we going" Neev interrupted unable to bear the sweetness of the girl.
"Shall we have panipuri? its very good in the stall around the corner.. er.. is that ok with you" She asked Neev who made a funny face.
"its ok with us" Milind hastily replied.." you get ready we will wait for you outside"
Pari came out dressed in a Blue and white salwar.Even Neev who was mad at her couldnt help notice that she looked beautiful while Milind remembered how Adi had planned for her wedding when she grew up.
"shall we walk to the stall... its nearby" Pari asked Milind.
"Sure.. why are you walking bare foot.. put your footware on"
"woh milsi..mere chappal kharaab hogaye.. its ok.. kal teek karvaloongi" Milind was moved as he understood her situation.As he was about to say something,Pari stopped him " Im not ashamed of my poverty.. im proud that im facing it bravely instead of running away from reality"
This girl sure is something... Neev thought to himself as he had panipuri for the fist time in his life at a roadside stall.
After catching up on each other's lives Milind bade her good night. As he was about to leave,Pari handed him a note.
"Kal subah jab aap di se milne jaaoge tab use dena" she winked at him.He opened the note to find a poem for prachi wishing her a speedy recovery and signed secret admirer. he hit her head with his hand and drove away with Neev.
Next Morning..
Prachi opened her eyes to find herself in a flower garden or so she thought. every nook and corner of the room was covered with flowers...her favourite flowers.on the lamp table beside, was placed a note along with a beautiful red rose.She quickly reached for the note and read it almost ten times smiling to herself. she believed it was milind who was her secret admirer .though she had no reason for her conclusion,it just felt good to feel that way for her.
she always knew of his presence.Smiling to her self she turned towards the glass wall of her room to see him approaching her room. Milind stopped suddenly as someone took his arm.Parchi lifted herself up by few inches as she saw a girl catching his arm.Arm in arm they entered her room.One look at Prachi and Milind immediately knew she was boiling with rage.pari rushed towards her and hugged her. prachi's anger evaporated in a moment but she was still curious about pari's behaviour.
After they talked for a while,Milind excused himself and left for the office.Prachi immediately took Pari to the task.
"chutki.. kal tak to tum milind ke naam se bhi darti thi na? toh aaj.."
"Di..di...i cant tell you how happy i am.. you know Milsi is my childhood friend..i came to know about it yesterday"
"Milsi??" prachi wondered aloud.
"haan..he asked me to call him that" pari replied holding up the breakfast tray to her.
Prachi didnt want pari to call her Milind as Milsi..it made her feel that pari was more closer to milind and her heart pained to think that. Milind never asked me to call him anyrthing else she thought.
"Di.. you look pale.. are you ok?" Pari touched her head worried.
Prachi immediately regretted thinking negatively about Pari. She was a kid,her sister.She would never do anything that would hurt her.
Neev entered the room after finishing the discharge formalities and dismissed Pari to go home as he would be taking prachi home. Going by the finality of his tone Pari decided to leave and visit her mishra uncle once before going home.
" toh yeh maamla hain..Milsi ne mujhe nahin bathaaya unke shadi ke baare mein.. dont worry uncle.. Di ko daada ke paas laane keliye mujh se jo kuch bhi hoga main karoongi.. par ek prolem hain.."
"kya problem hain chutki?" Milind asked entering his house.
"daada.. aap ko yaad hain.. when i used to call you bhai along with Adi bhaiyya.. both of you used to warn me not to call bhai as it would look uncool infront of other girls..You made me call you Milsi.. now i call Prachi as Di.. so what should i call both of you? bhaiyya bhabhi yaa di aur jiju ?" she laughed as Milind blushed slightly.
"Thanks Neev.. for all the trouble you took for me" Prachi was still disappointed that Milind was not present there.Premlatha adjusted her pillows to make her comfortable.
"the hospital bill must have been.." Premlatha was cutoff by Neev. " Milind ne bhar diya.." he quickly added " company ki policy hain"
As far as prachi knew it was a cumbersome procedure and it would take atleast four days for the claim to be processed.Neev told her that with the express permission of Milind anything could be possible in a single day.prachi felt elated after hearing this. milind did this for her.she should atleast thank him.She immediately dialled up his personal number.
"hello milind..sir.." prachi tried to hide the anxiety in her voice to hear him.
"woh nahaane gaye hain..aap koun?" came a girl's voice.
"pari??" prachi whispered into the phone as colour drained from her face.
