This question came up in another debate so I thought I'd ask you all this: Do you think shows based on a religion's scriptures should be made? Do you think it is good or detremental to society?

For example, we all know that shows like Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan, Ramanand Sagar's Shri Krishna, BRC's Mahabharat, NDTV's recent Ramayan, Colors' Jai Shri Krishna, Color's Mahavir Hanuman, Mahima Shani Dev Ki, Jai Ganga Maiyya, etc, have caught people's attention on TV and claimed top slots on the TRP lists when they were on. As for RS's Ramayan, it brought the whole country to a standstill when it aired more than 20 years ago, and landed itself a place in the Limca Book of Records..

Also, I've seen shows on Jesus, Moses, Abraham, and other characters from the Bible made as well, and they too were very attention grabbing.

Do you think mytho/scripture based shows affect the society for better or worse?

My stanza is this: thorough research should be made before a show is taken. Mytho shows do affect society whether some people want to accept it or not, so we don't want shows like KHMK to air, but otherwise, I think mytho shows are a def plus for society. Many youngsters in today's generation do not read the actual scriptures themselves because they are too "boring" or "long", and they tend to become rebellious because of outside influence, so the best way to teach these kids (who in today's generation is totally media oriented) to respect parents, siblings, Dharm, Karm, and the true meaning of husband-wife relationship is through these mythos. Kids spend hours and hours on the TV every day, so if accurately researched mythos are shown, kids will do what they most enjoy doing, and learn the morals and ideals taught in India's ancient History, instead of watching the waste saas-bahu soaps which teach nothing but jealousy or anger.

Agreed but even after thorough research there cud B disputes as there may be different version depending on source chosen. Eg Lot of contro was created during Jodha akbar movie due to conflicting hist versions

True, we had a huge debate about which Ramayan version is most authentic in the Ramayan Forum, and people were torn between Valmiki and Tulsidas.

By authentic, what I meant was: as long as they stick to one, two, or even three versions: and list those versions in their disclaimer without adding any extra "Sagar Puran" like fluff, it would be a good serial. The main message should be to teach people, esp kids, the ideals taught in these scriptures through a meaningful creative way, without distorting the characters of the Gods like the mythos these days are doing. As long as the message is portrayed in a bhakti format, some extra scenes would not be bad as long as they do not defame the characters.

Correction: Do you think shows based on human encarnation of God should be made. Human encarnations were created for those who are hard at understanding the concept of God.

By doing these shows we are into dumbing down the public by further simplying the concept of human encarnation by having some other human who is more like us play a role of the human encarnation

When they make a movie on a simple book, there is debate amidst readers on if justice was done to a book. Also the same book is made over again into different movies and seems different each time - and then people argue which version was better.

If people accept that there is room for such argument, debate, critique and analysis - then why not make anything into a show/movie. But if people have unquestionable perceptions, then its not wise in light of sensible society.

It may be a creation to you, but there are people who believe God did incarnate himself on Earth, so don't state it like a fact. State it as your opinion.

As for you opinion on mytho shows, I don't agree with it, but I respect it because you stated it as an opinion.

But doesnt change the fact that the it is a Human Encarnation😉 and to that even you seem to be agreeing, that is what I stated😆
