Lol this random thought jus came to my mind...

im not gonna lie...most of the stuff that I learned about the earth's atmosphere, lava, rocks n minerals are from movies like THE CORE, VOLCANOE, etc lol i never undserstood these concepts wen explained to me in class... so my question is since I learned much bout science and technology and also different cultures from around the wordl frm hollywood films.......can we also learn these stuff from bollywood films? 😕

I remember getting an A+ on three of my history quizzes just me memorizing things I've seen in THE MUMMY, Night at the Museum...and heres something shockin...THE SIMPSON! yes THE SIMPSONS helped me get an A+ in my 10th grade history quiz on Brazil and Egypt!!😆😆

Earlier wen my aunt said tht she doesnt want her kid to watch bolly films since theres nothing educational u can learn frm them...I would argue....but now i kinda find it sorta true man! All i c in bollyfilms r romancing, sing n dancing...EXTRA WHITE DANCERS IN THE BACKGROUND😆, and uuuh yea yash raj films' concepts of making india-pakistan be friends 😕

THE ONLY FILM THAT HELPED ME LEARN SOMETHING EDUCATIONAL is BHOOL BULAIYA yea thnks to tht film I learend about split personality and now am taking a psychology course to understand more about it

wat r ur thoughts?

I already noe most replies will prolly reply back sayin "Films r for pure entertainemt...not for learning"😆

Wouldn't bolly movies benefit folks pursuing career in music/dance/singing/direction etc etc etc ...this is only one side of it... have big list of things otherwise that can be VERY VERY educative to viewers, but would be nice to know - What constitutes educational info, first?

Sure, Bollywood movies surpass any others in terms of Love Ed. Recently, there was a TB article showcasing various romantic dialogues from Bolly flicks ... they were asking you to say those to your Valentine. Now, what more practical purpose can Bolly movies serve if not that? Next time, try, telling a girl, "kitni shiddat se tumhe paane ki koshish ki hai, ke har zarre ne mujhe tumse milane ki saazish ki hai" ... and see what happens.

Do share if you live to tell the tale. 😉😆

That's not entirely true. I agree that hollywood films are more thought out & alot of research goes into them, but Bollywood is progressing and we are slowly getting past the 'Hero-Heroine-dance-romance-the end' Era.
Bollywood has been stereotyped for it's larger than life films, too much dancing, too mushy-mushy, but all films are not like that. For eg - I never knew what dyslexia exactly was until I watched Taare Zameen Par. I had a vague Idea but didn't know what it actually was. So I think TZP increased my knowledge about that.
And like Raj pointed out, Depends on what you consider as 'informative'. If knowledge about reality falls in your category, then alot of those have been made In Bollywood.

Not all the movies are educative. One in a hundred maybe useful for information. All others are misinformation like one hero fighting with a group of goondas. Or the actors getting drunk in one drink. But to depend on bollywood movies for getting educational values.....no way.

Good that Bollywood movies help you,
in my case if i start watching bollywood movies for education ,
i'll get C- 😆

So i think for me books and teachers would do a good job for providing education😊

As Anshu pointed out, the whole notion of how educative bollywood movies are depends on your definition of education.

They may have not helped me get high grades on school exams but they certainly teach a lot of other things about the Indian culture that Hollywood movies can never portray. I never went to India until last year.. half the knowledge I have about India and its culture is from watching Bollywood movies and the other half i got from my parents.😆 Hell, i even learned my Hindi from watching hindi movies.👍🏼 Eventhough majority of the movies are dramatized to the fullest,😎 the underlying concept is stil informative. To name a few, movies like Mard, Lagaan, Mangal Panday, Salaam-E-Mohabbat, Pinjar, Gadar, Lajja teach a lot about Indian history (assuming they got their facts right).. These movies got me interested in the bits and pieces of the history of India, that I would otherwise never would have looked into. Other family dramas like Hum Aapke Hain Kaun and Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaaye Ge taught me a lot of how weddings happen in India and how rich the culture is.. I have never seen a wedding in India and flicks like this always give soo much information on the rasams and customs.. You can never capture that same essence in a wedding happening in the US/Canada (in my opinion)..

How is it "good" information when it's not relevant either? They try passing Switzerland as someone's gaon or Shimla and many a times, that phoren ka apartment where protagonists live is built on a set😆 I think they mislead on geography as well😆

Yes they mislead us big time. But I think Hollywood movies do the same as well.
Becuase Kal Ho Na ho was shot in Toronto and yet in the movie they showed it as New York. Same with Apne, it was shot in Toronto and in the movie they told us New York!!

But Bollywood hardly comes with educational movies, and even if they do come out, they are not advertised properly. So we never know about them!
