"I can feel it, too. Over the past few years I've had an uncomfortable sense that someone, or something, has been tinkering with my brain, remapping the neural circuitry, reprogramming the memory. My mind isn't going'so far as I can tell'but it's changing. I'm not thinking the way I used to think. I can feel it most strongly when I'm reading. Immersing myself in a book or a lengthy article used to be easy. My mind would get caught up in the narrative or the turns of the argument, and I'd spend hours strolling through long stretches of prose. That's rarely the case anymore. Now my concentration often starts to drift after two or three pages. I get fidgety, lose the thread, begin looking for something else to do. I feel as if I'm always dragging my wayward brain back to the text. The deep reading that used to come naturally has become a struggle."

For whole article ,see - http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200807/google

So the simple question -
is google altering our mental habits ?
if yes , then how,
if no , then please explain a bit in detail ...

Google has altered my mental habits. But in my case it has made me smarter or more analytical. In the past when I came across unknown terms or read about something new, I felt lazy to look something up in the dictionary or research something.

Now with google every time I hear a new word, I make a note to "google" it. I think my vocabulary has increased dramatically since the advent of the internet and THE GOOGLE. I search a lot concepts, events, news whatever. If my text book addresses a point briefly and I want more I google it. When I studied civil war, I googled all Lincoln speeches and read them. When I studied ancient Israel, I googled various versions of biblican historic interpretations. When it came to Ancient Greece and Egypt, I spent hours googling. When I studied philosophy of religion, I googled various theories, their proponents and their other philosophical views. When I studied social ethics I googled for even more essays and subjects covering moral theories and evaluating social issues with moral theories.

I think how you react to Google is based on the kind of person you are. I am a curious child. Google is the satisfaction that keeps bringing me back from my death.

CPM ji,
kitne one liners hain aapke paas ?😆
anyways, mast hain aur sach hain 😊

RTH ji,

Great !👏

But do you sometimes feel that it serves as something which leads to memory loss ?😆
Not exactly ,
but what i want to ask is,
memory is sharpened on practising, recalling, etc
, however with google we just might not want to recall,
we'll just search the term about which we have a doubtful memory
(leave those topics alone which you have no idea about or about which you are completely sure )
even though on recalling for some time , we might just remember what we were doubtful about.
So is google ruining our memory somewhere down the line ?
You can talk about both,
your case,
and what you feel might be happening in general 😊
