From being a housemate on Big Boss to spiritual singing, Monica Bedi will now try to woo audiences with her dance moves. Bedi is all set to join the other participants of Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa (Sony TV). We spoke to the excited actress about her second reality show.
After launching a spiritual album, how did you decide to take up dancing?
Dancing has always been my passion; it has been my first love so it's going to be loads of fun. But along with that, jo haddiyaan dukh rahi hain, uska alag hi mazaa aa raha hai. I am happy because I am getting to learn different forms of dance: salsa, rumbha, cha cha cha, I've never done all these. It is like a comeback after many years, so it's fun.

What do you think are your strengths?
There is one thing … no matter how depressed I am, when I listen to music, I can't stop myself… I start swirling automatically. I guess the enjoyment and happiness that music gives me is my strength.

How would you rate yourself as a dancer?
That's really difficult to say, you guys should watch it and judge. I've never learnt dancing; it's just been fun for me. So, all I can tell you is its going to be really tough.

Who do you think is your toughest competitor?
It's very difficult to say at this point of time as the show hasn't started yet. But one thing I can tell you is that the competition is really cutthroat this time, especially between the six girls because all of them are equally good.

Do you think there will be a lot of backstabbing with six beautiful girls competing against each other?
No, I don't believe in that. Rather, I tell you, we are being forced to get vocal on the show to add to masala to it. In fact, in the beginning, we were told that we have to speak against each other otherwise our marks would be deducted. That made me feel so guilty that I couldn't sleep at night.

How much time have you been spending with your rehearsals?
That is not fixed. There are days when I have other work and can't give much time to rehearsals. Then there are days when I don't have much to do so I can really spend all my time rehearsing.

You've acted in films, where there is an option of a retake for every scene. Do you think that dancing live through an entire song, with no second takes, will be tough?

Of course it's more difficult, you've to shoot for the entire song live. During that, if you fall or go blank, there's no second chance. You'll be judged on your every move by the judges and the whole world will be watching you. So, I am scared to some extent.

Who amongst all the three judges are you most scared off?

We all are very scared of Saroj ji because she's quite bold with her comments and in the first episode we all will be performing on her's and Vaibhavi's songs. At the same time, we all hold immense respect for her. She is our guru.

How open are you to daily soaps?
As of now, I am just concentrating on Jhalak and I am not too sure about doing daily soaps.

Will we see you in a comedy show next?

I really wish… it's fun as well as a big challenge to make people laugh. It's actually the toughest thing but if I get an opportunity, I would love to do it.

Apart from this, what else is in the pipeline for you?
Apart from Jhalak, I am doing two films for which I'll start shooting for in August.

Catch Monica dancing with her choreographer Javed Sanadi from February 27 on Sony TV.

Thanks for the article, Sonam.

Monu seems to be going to town with her comments on reality shows!! She's openly saying they are rigged and that participants are told to add masala! 😲

Your welcome! 😊
Well she is speaking the truth. Most reality shows are fake and always have the winners decided. The only real show has been Bigg Boss.

Sonam, I thought so too back then, but not sure anymore! Given all the comments by Zulfi about vote rigging and now Monica's comments.
