My friend Lovelyreddyrose aka Alekhya wanted me to write something about Bani a successful professional working preferably in an government department?.well I was a bit reluctant, though an admirer of Kiran Bedi I know very little about the profession. Like most of you 'Police' is not the favourite word in my dictionary, having very little to do with it except paying fines for breaking traffic rules which my driver does once in a while. Whatever little I have written is based on reports and films I have seen from time to time, there maybe a lot of errors which please overlook as creative fallacy of mine. So Alekhya here you go, if you do not like it mujhe maaf kar dena?.love Tin

A New Beginning
It's never too late to start over
Feeling down and lonely
I revealed myself to you
Not sure what to expect
A chance for something new
You made me feel less shameful
For what once seemed forsaken
I crawled out of the cracks
And let myself be taken
Thank you for your treasure search
And for dusting off the gem
You took a broken spirit
And made my life less grim
And now I owe you plenty
A life of happy endings
Because when you found me
You brought a new beginning
Bani gazed at herself in the mirror, dressed in her uniform she was looking smart'Bani ensured she buttoned her shirt properly, it's tucked into her trousers too, the belt in place, the badges properly pinned. She picked up the comb to run it through her hair. Not much of a job though, with short hair it is not much of a hassle, picking up her cap she stepped out, returned the salute of the guard smartly, went to take her seat besides the driver in the van'.
+++
As the van went past through the villages, Bani looked out of the window, the district of Hanumangarh was in the north of Rajasthan with Haryana & Punjab as its boarder states. The place was very dry with extreme climate. The sun was hot but the evenings were cool. Being nearer to the great Indian Desert ' The Thar, the area had somewhat barren look. Being in the broader region, it also had a mix population. Bani felt excited as the van drove past the farmlands and barren lands, she could feel her excitement building up. When she had qualified about 3 years ago, her family questioned if she really wanted to take up the profession for Bani there was no scope of 2nd thought. Life won't be easy for you, her father said'.life is never easy for anyone Bani replied. You are a girl and the profession makes you deal with the biggest criminals of the society, her mother said. Nehi Ma, the profession will help me to protect the good of the society, to help the innocent people, to rescue the down trodden.
Pata nehi beta, I somehow feel the profession is not right for you, think beta think'.once again beta please do not take hasty decisions, all decisions cannot be reversed.
I know that Ma and I have grown up now, I will no longer make silly mistakes in my life'..
Well you have studied hard and you have qualified, her father said aur beta silly mistakes we all make, even at this age but ensure you come out of the mistake without much mess, without getting hurt.
Ji papa I will keep that in mind. So when Bani got her first posting she soon earned a name for her toughness and fairness. She was known for her no nonsense attitude and her seniors too respected her for achievements in the shortest possible time. For two years Bani worked directly under the Superintendent of Police of Jodhpur District in Rajasthan. Seeing her performance one fine morning she got a call.
++++
When Bani entered the room of her boss, she was surprised to see the DIG standing alongwith Mr Poddar. Bani clicked her heels and saluted them'
Officer Dixit, good morning, we have a proposal for you'..
Yes Sir'.
Mr Poddar looked at his Senior'.
Miss Dixit the DIG said, you might be very surprised to see me early in the morning. Well I have received a request from the headquarters to recommend names of two officers who are willing to take up positions in north of Rajasthan in a district called Hanumangarh. I mean there is some problem, mainly boarder issues, encroaching of land etc etc., like it happens in all boarder district but the problem is not that, lately it has been found much to our dismay, the police officers are taking too much liberty from the villagers, I mean there is a section of people who have become very upset with the force there hence the district headquarters have asked for fresh officers who are tough and not connected with that area'..
Bani stood straight hearing the DIG, she was not supposed to interrupt and question him. I was very surprised when Poddar suggested your name, but then I have heard about you so I thought I should atleast talk to you'.
Bani waited for the DIG to continue'
When do I have to take up the posting Sir?'.
The DIG darted a glance towards Poddar and gave Bani a smile'.
Well when can you go?'.
I am ready when you are Sir, I mean when you will release me'.
Well Miss Dixit, if Poddar does not have any problems then 1st of next month, on the last working day here you will be released so that you can take up your new position.
OK Sir, thank you Sir'Bani clicked her heels once again, saluted and turned to leave'
Yes Sir'.
Don't you want to know any details, like whether you will be promoted or not, if not then when etc. etc., you know the normal questions, you can go ahead, I will not mind incase you want some clarifications'.
Bani gave her stiff smile, well sir, I think that will come with the order, I mean whatever written in the order I will accept'.
Yes I know, but Sir wants to assure you Miss. Dixit'.
Mr Poddar Sir, you know me, I have been working under you for 2 years'well verbal assurances is something I do not have faith in much, as they have tendency to change with the circumstances but I will accept whatever is written in the order'.
The DIG looked at her face, it was solemn, whether she is happy, unhappy could not be made out'.OK Officer, we take it and you will get your order soon'
Sir, Bani saluted before leading the room'.
The DIG looked at the Superintendent, well Poddar you are right, she is tough'
Yes Sir, tougher than any Assistants I have under me'.
Yes I wanted to see her with my own eyes, only 2 years she has been in the force and she looks hungry for challenge, understandable as she still a fresher hence looking out for adventure but then'..
Well Sir you may be right but Bani, I mean Miss Dixit is cut out a bit differently, I mean she is a thorough professional no doubt but I have seen her in some informal occasions also, in get-togethers etc., she keeps to herself'..
What's wrong with your men Poddar, don't they have eyes'.can't they see'.Inspite of standing in front of his senior Poddar smiled, of course they can but then Sir the uniform enhances the personality of men whereas it just has an opposite effect on woman, I mean that is what my wife says'it makes women look unattractive'.
Do you think so ? I mean your wife has seen Bani'.
Of course Sir, many a times and after seeing her she made this comment'
Of course from a woman's point of view definitely but what do you think Poddar, you are a man what do you think of Miss Dixit'.
Well I would not mess around with a woman like her'.Poddar commented with a straight face'
The DIG smiled, good, I also think so and hence think we have made a good choice'.
