Priyanka Chopra has shared fresh details about her upcoming film Varanasi, directed by SS Rajamouli, offering fans a glimpse into the scale of the much-awaited project. Speaking on the Hey Jonas podcast hosted by Nick Jonas, the actor reflected on the long production schedule and what makes Rajamouli's filmmaking process unique.
Chopra revealed that she has been associated with the film for around 14 months, adding that Rajamouli is known for spending considerable time developing his films. She said, "SS Rajamouli is known to take that kind of time to make movies. He called me for this movie, and it’s this epic adventure around the world and in time. It has taken a minute, but I am so excited about it. I do so many amazing slow-motion jumps in it, and that’s all I can say about it."
A Story That Travels Across Worlds
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMD2uthghWE&list=RDDMD2uthghWE&start_radio=1Varanasi is Rajamouli's first feature film after the global success of RRR. Penned by veteran writer Vijayendra Prasad, the film brings together mythology, Indian folklore and science fiction, with time travel forming a key part of the narrative. Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj headline the ensemble cast alongside Priyanka Chopra.
The film reportedly spans multiple locations and timelines, making it one of Rajamouli's most ambitious ventures. Chopra had earlier spoken about the project in an interview with Variety, where she said, "We travel from like Antarctica to… and just the worlds that he creates are so larger than life, and nobody has the vision that he does. So even I’m excited to see more."
Dance Number And Big Reveals
Chopra also revealed that she specifically requested Rajamouli for a dance sequence in the film. Recalling the conversation, she said, "I was like, 'Listen, I’m coming back to Indian movies. I have to do a dance song. Like you have to make me dance.'"
Meanwhile, Rajamouli recently confirmed that Mahesh Babu will appear as Lord Rama in one of the film's key portions. Vijayendra Prasad has also teased a 30-minute battle sequence featuring Rama and Kumbhakarna. With several large-scale action scenes already completed and filming expected to wrap by October, Varanasi continues to build momentum ahead of its April 2027 release.
