About US being ahead of India.... ofcourse they will be ahead of us as far as standard of living is concerned or development is concerned..... but i would nt say they are the best country and neither is india....

USA is independent for more than 200 years as against 60 for india.... so u take that much more progression into account and this gap will always be there....
India certainly has self made deficiencies such as population for which no other country can be blamed..... had we checked the population, we would have been far ahead in terms of development.....
but USA is not saint... they are the only country in the world who used a nuclear bomb to kill innocents..... they bombed iraq just for the oil wells..... they dont want to dismantle their nuclear arsenal to keep their power..... they want developing countries to bow to their terms for farm subsidies to kill developing countries from getting developed.... if you want to do a PhD on abuse of power.... u just have to study one country that is USA...... so if u wanna accept truths..... accept all of them.....😃

This is exactly my point . I never said USA is the best country etc but the FACT is they are the superpower of the world, that the whole world somehow looks up to them and we cant deny it nor can we deny that they are developed and developing and also they are more disciplined and organised.
Now look at ur post itself, instead of accepting that yes, we do lack in a lot of areas, we immediately go on the defensive and point of flaws of other countries. When in comparison of development alone, we do lack behind, ok we are just 60 yrs old but then so are several other countries who are far far more ahead of us in development.
Your point abt population is bang on , had we curtailed that, we could have developed more rapidly. But my post was abt going on the defensive all the time and instead of accepting that yes we do lack, we have failed in many areas like discipline and organisation which could have helped development, we point fingers across pick out their flaws which in truth , they do have but the other fact is we cannot point fingers at others until we are capable to do so. In the sense, develop and progress, become a developed couuntry and then take on superpowers , till then the fact is we have to accept the truth instead of going on the defensive

It is not only with india.... it is the same way you have been defensive about America and blaming the india and indians defensive tactics.... every country person tries to defend their country.... if we cry about our weaknesses, noone will ever allow us to go ahead.... mind u india and china are the once fighting with USA for so many years in WTO for other developing countries too... USA is a superpower but is not at all a responsible country.....

I havent been defending USA, I have been stating the FACTS and truth that they are the superpower and they are far more developed than us.

As for defending our country, thats my point, isnt it wrong to defend when we clearly know that its not doing well in the development front.
Thats why the post title is " accepting the truth" which we dont and instead again point fingers and go on the defensive.
Its ok if we have valid points and progress to go to defend but then we dont instead we go on the defensive without any valid points in terms of civic sense, development, corruption and organisation.

Why can't we accept the truth....well, may be, we can😉 Read on. I thought it was interesting given the current chant of America.................

ERRATICA
Move over America. We can too
9 Nov 2008, 0006 hrs IST, Bachi Karkaria
Obama did not slip up even once and say, "Yes, we McCain." The refrain of his victory speech was "Yes, we can." It caught on so well because it was
simple enough for the reddest of necks in states red, blue or purple. The crowd at Chicago's Grant Park, tearily maudlin, grinning moronically and/or nodding manically, roared back, "Yes, we can." Millions of other Americans watching on TV echoed the words with the same mass hysteria: "Yes, we can." Even that irrepressible band of US comedians, took their tongue out of their cheek, and let it hang out in awed silence. And the rest of the world said, "Wow! America is Barack on track. It is indeed the land of the free, and the home of the brave it. It can do the impossible." Big deal! We have out-sauced them in that department.

We are not talking of such small achievements like a country which hasn't solved poverty managing to send a rocket to the moon ? and do so at closing-down-sale prices. Or of a country which hasn't removed illiteracy managing to export brilliant techies to the developed world like they were mass-produced dosa mix. No, i'm not even talking of a country which is still to produce a respectable number of respected politicians managing to be a world model of democracy, election after election. Even our doddering tribals carried piggyback into polling booths cast their votes more speedily than last Tuesday's TV images of Mr & Mrs Obama struggling with their ballot papers.

No, i am talking of the truly impossible, improbable, unbelievable achievements which we manage to pull off day after day ? to the despair of the average Indian and the delight of the gluttonous media. Take only those which occurred in the week when Obama pulled off the resurrection of America.

Can we have either a practising sadhvi or a serving senior army officer masterminding a terrorist plot? Can we have, both, the yogi and the commissar involved so deeply in it? Yes, we can.

Can we say that Hindu killers of innocents are less guilty than Muslim ditto if the former have acted in retaliation, but refuse to apply the same logic when Muslim bomb blasts were triggered by Hindu genocide? Yes we can.

When another sadhvi, Uma Bharti, slaps Anil Rai, state vice-president of her own party, in full view of the national media, can they simply later dismiss it as "a family affair"? Yes, they can.

Can we remove from public consciousness India's glycerine soap, perpetrator of saas-bahu regression, creator of a whole social, political and even corporate metaphor, kyunki its production house and TV channel are involved in the mother-in-law of all battles over TRP? Yes, we can.

Can we allow the BCCI to challenge a code of conduct which they themselves helped to draft when the ICC bans Gautam Gambhir? Yes we can.

Can rapist sons of influential fathers elude justice for weeks? Yes, they can.

Can we permit a chief minister to waste official time denouncing Hindus for wearing tilaks and the sacred thread? Yes, we can.

Can we let models become role models for whole generations regardless of economic status or even age? Yes, we can.

Can you match this, America? No, you can't!

Alec Smart said, "Like Henry Ford's cars, the Americans can have a president in any colour of their choice, provided he's Black."

@ Gauri...That was a neat article.......you posted

@ Tina....great topic.....!
There will be one clear consensus...this topic will have enough takers and thrashers.....depending on your expereinces and perceptions! 😊
I say one thing.....relevant in it's irrelvance...
Sure we don't owe it that we are still in a very developing state.....
That it shall take us great discipline, major change of attitude.............
That we need assessing the laws, mechanisms, and institutions that should curb, deter, or prevent abuses of power.
More importantly, that at it's core, we need having the degree of access citizens should have to information and mechanisms to hold public officials accountable........
That we need some major shaking up.....
That we are worlds second largest populated country with a large percentile still illeterate.........
But........
Like Poison sang "every Rose has it's thorn......."
America or other developed nations have problems abound!
It's another story that so far that has not touched their economic or military growth........
But does that make them ideal nations........hmmmm it's a topic of it's own.
But to wrap up ( gawd too much of Presidential debate overdose.....😆)
I do agree parts of what Tina said about we not willing to own our responsibilites.......that we still need some major ground work to do to pave out a way for a great nation.....
but then all is not perfect in the still waters of great countries like America too.......
What say shall we call this Bipartisan debating tactics.......???
*thanks Obama for reintroducing the word* 😆😆
