A usual cop story back in the town again. Well, most of the leading actors in Kollywood have reached their heights of glory performing the role of police officers. Followed by Vijay, Ajith, Vikram and Surya here comes Vishal donning the same role making no difference with the story. Debutant Rajashekar was reported to have captured his real life experience as a journalist, but the impact isn't powerful as expected. A honest police officer fighting for justice fighting against the bad politicians and revealing their true colors. This has been everlasting story centered on cops and Satyam is no exception from this.

What makes the film so special? Take a look on the synopsis before we go for the analysis…

Satyam (Vishal), a sincere police officer is not dead against encounters on baddies in the town nor does he allow his colleagues to bump off gundas. He believes that encounters are not a means of putting an end to bad things, but a favorite sport for politician who wants to kill their henchmen when situations are unfavorable. Kondal Dasan (Kota Srinivasa Rao), Law Minister eyes to grab the position of chief minister and orders his left hand Dilli (Ravi Kalle) to bump off the other cabinet ministers. But, a stranger (Upendra) is already there bumping off the targets that leaves Kondal Dasan and his entire gang puzzled, even Satyam who is on the pursuit of mysterious killer. Sooner, Satyam finds out that the assassin is none other than ex-police man Manickam (Upendra) who happens to be the main inspiration for Satyam becoming a police officer. What was the intention behind the murders? Does Satyam prove of Manickam's murder act? Does he taken into clutches of law or disapprove of the case lodged against him? Who is his next target? Does he accomplish with his task or Satyam? You will have whole lot of questions answered in the second half.

Film moves on bit of dragging with commercial elements of title song about hero worship, romance, fun, frolic and heroine falling in love with a sincere cop. But, the pace is on as Upendra appears on the screen. Be it his body language or action, he sways on with the best performance and at certain points he dominates Vishal. For no sound reason, his role gets diminished as he remains silent till the climax scene and Director should have utilized him more convincingly in the climax part. Oops! What about Vishal? Yes, his looks and acts are stunning, but the silly aspects like volleyball rolling under his palms and taming down the baddies with the same ball is quite annoying. Even the frontbenchers wouldn't be convinced with this. Fine! He is top-notched with his stunts, especially in the climax sequence he stuns with his breathtaking fight.

Nayanthara as a journalist does no good for the film. It's again a girl falling in love with a man, shaking legs with him for couple of songs. Director should have presented her characterization in a little powerful manner, since Nayan is capable of doing it.

Kota Srinivasa Rao is back with the same performance as he did in Saami. Prabhu Nepal does a decent job and so does Ravi Kalle. Premji Amaran is there to add humor and he does justice to his role. Though appearing in few scenes, Sudha Chandran as Vishal's mother steals the show on the emotional aspects.

Getting on with technical aspects, it's a great disappointment from the gang of leading technicians. R.D.Rajashekar who captured the scenic shots in films like Kaakha Kaakha and Ghajini fails to do the same over here. Antony on his editing does no wonder for the film and Harris Jayaraj well known for churning out the best background scores dashes our hopes. Thotta Tharani's set decoration for 'Ada Gada Gada' and 'Chellamae Chellamae' goes mind-boggling.

Might be, Director didn't turn up to their side leaving the entire process into their hands. Let's glimpse through some of the blatant flaws committed by the director. On the trial, Upendra proves of his absence in airport during the time of murder. But how that is an international airport with lots of candid camera would have missed capturing his entry or moment before he gets into airbus for boarding… In the climax sequence, when Vishal is shot, the culprit is beaten up by the crowd, but it is so surprising to see that none of the police officers, public, even his ladylove doesn't get to his rescue. Certain things of this sort seem to be absurd and Director should have worked on these aspects precisely.

On the whole, Satyam is a flick to watch to kill your time. Go with no expectations, you will enjoy it. Of course, it's a grand fiesta for Vishal fans.

Hmmm justh have to wait and see what the people have to say about this movie...........looks like too much action..........this is probabley going to be flop like Bheema hope not😕

There is something about Vishal. He's always been serious about his work and tries hard, however insignificant the script may be. And somehow his devotion and the effort he takes for his film shines, like in Satyam, which otherwise is a run-of-the mill type cop story.

Basically, it is a one-man show. The film holds you riveted to a certain extent only due to Vishal's involvement, top of the range visual effects, superbly crafted action scenes and splendid camera work.

Debutant director A.Rajasekhar tackles the film half heartedly as he dilutes it with a lot of mass masala, which shifts the focus from the plot. The problem is that, story is wafer thin and the end product looks like a B-grade Telugu cop movie.

It looks like the story is a few incidents in the life of a cop, Satyam (Vishal) who is fighting for justice against the corrupt system. He believes in what he was told at a young impressionable age - Sattavum, Saamiyum Onnu (the Law and God are the same). This is the motto in his life as he tries to bring the scums of the earth to face justice. He lives with his doting mother (Sudha Chandran) whose guiding force has made him the man he is.

They live in an apartment complex with a girl Deva (Nayanthara) a wannabe television news reporter who moves around with a camera with her friend Bora (Premji) and a group of mischievous children. Deva who is initially at loggerheads with Satya falls for him when she knows he is an upright cop with principles.

Meanwhile trouble starts brewing for Satyam, when he is asked by the corrupt and cunning Home Minister Kondal Dasan (Kota Srinivasa Rao) to take over the investigation of two ministers who were brutally gunned down by an assassin.

Satyam gets to the root of the problem when he discovers that there is a power struggle going on for the Chief Ministers chair, and the Home Minister has asked his trusted hatchet man Dilli (Ravi Kalle) a killer to dispose of his rivals.

Meanwhile Satya finds that the actual killer is his role model and an ex-police officer Manikavel (Upendra), a man of integrity and honesty who due to circumstances is now gunning for bad elements in the society. Satyam is shattered by the findings and is forced to put his mentor in jail.

He becomes the angry young man, as he takes on Dasan, Dilli and the brain behind Acharya (Prabhu Nepaul) single 'handedly leading to a predictable climax.

The plus points of the film is Craig Mumma's stunning visual effects. The airport scene where Vishal chases Upendra along the runway is well taken including the blow-up scene. Then there is a Cold Sweat style car chase through the busy traffic of Chennai, which looks so real. Added to that Stun Siva's action choreography is terrific, the way Vishal is shown fighting an army of baddies at close range and the Ice factory running action scenes are deadly. All this looks good on screen due to R.D Rajasekar's top class cinematography. He employs a lot of top-angle shots, which give you a sense of 'you are there' realism.

The major drawback is the lack of a solid screenplay. Too much footage is wasted in the first half on a group of kids and their Tom and Jerry type slapstick comedy track with Nayanthara and Premji, borrowed heavily from "Home Alone" is a downer. Harris Jayaraj's music lacks the 'dum' associated with him and far too many songs at regular intervals spoil the tempo of this cop movie.

The song picturisation including the much hyped "Chellame, Chellame'" lacks imagination and could have been better. Editor Antony could have easily trimmed this nearly 3 hours movie especially, the long drawn out first half.

Nayanthara's role of a dumb girl goes against her image though she scores as the glamour quotient especially in the song shot in Turkey. But her character has been badly etched and is basically there as a lead to the songs. Upendra is there in a routine sympathetic role and it looks like he is wasted. Kota and Ravi Kalle do their usual caricature bad man roles efficiently.

Vishal anchors the film and bestows upon it a gravity it wouldn't have otherwise. He looks every inch a cop in uniform with his crew cut hair,

WOw didn't expect Sify site to give good comments on this movie...so much different views on people ............gods knows if i am goignto have watch this too much action movie in the teacthers😕

I know i didn't want to watch this in cinema, but my dad likes vishal and i had to take him for the show ..........
Sorry to all vishal fans out there, but i did not enjoy this movie at all. First of all, Vishal did not look good on cop attire. It suited many hero's but did not on Vishal. But he acted good, no complains on his acting. But my god, Nayantara😡 .............. she is just ... grrrr. I wonder why she accepting this role. Basically she did nothing except showing flesh again and again (not enough doing it at kuselan). I like nayan for doing roles like in Yaaradi Nee Mohoni. But in this movie, being a journalish, nothing much she played. Just had the camera on her and moving around with her friend.
Movie was bit dragging. The romance part was very much dragging. Second part of the story was more in Vishal investigating something etc etc ....
Overall, movie is okay. If u guys planning to watch it at cinema, i would recommend no. Might as well wait till it comes up in DVD ....

thank goodness i didn't go to the theatres to watch this film. no matter how hard people try to make a good cop film, some of them just can't make a 'Kakka Kakka' or 'Anjathey'.😊
vishal has never been my favourite, i dislike him for some reason but since people have been saying his acting is good in this film, i'll give it a go.😊 nayantara seems to have gotten from bad to worse. when she 1st started out in 'Ayya' i thought she would be a great character actress. she definitely has the talent but no! she'd rather strip & let the hero rub his face all over hers. erghh..
