| It's A Season Of Spats In Bollywood! | ||
| Right from the much publicised love stories of Salman Khan-Katrina Kaif, Harman Baweja-Priyanka Chopra and Saif Ali Khan-Kareena Kapoor to the hush-hush liaisons of Shilpa Shetty-Raj Kundra and Soha Ali Khan-Siddharth - most couples seem to be treading the path to splitsville. From Saif's much hyped tattoo, Katrina's visit to Ajmer Sharif to pray for beau Salman, Kareena playing mommy to Saif's kids, Abraham and Sara to Salman and Harman throwing surprise parties to woo their ladies...the tinselville dikkat seems to be pyaar kiya to darna kya! But, there's a flip side to the mushy business too. Like their much publicised romantic escapades, most Bollywood couples face the risk of highly talked about splits and spats. For instance, the whole world seemed to be privy to Saif openly asking Bebo to 'shut up' during an argument at a party thrown by film-maker Farhan Akhtar. Before the jilted lovers could patch-up, the world was aware of the trouble brewing in paradise. If that was Saifeena, Sallu and Kat are no less love enthusiasts. But just like Sallu's past affairs, even this one seems to be ending with a dhud! Steamy-hot love affairs in tinsel town are clearly running into rough weather. Unlike their older counterparts for whom both coming together and parting ways was an equally private affair, the new age love birds prefer blowing their trumpets aloud. Adman Prahlad Kakar says, "It was fashionable earlier to have a clandestine extra-marital affair, as most of the stars were married, so there was no point in declaring their affairs to the world. But today, if given a chance there would be a hidden camera even in a celebs' bedroom, so they have no choice but to reveal the dope about their affairs." Gal power Be it script writer Javed Akhtar walking out of his marriage to Honey Irani upon meeting Shabana Azmi, actor Rajesh Khanna asking for a divorce from Dimple Kapadia when he was going around with Tina Munim or ace director Ramesh Sippy marrying actress Kiron Joneja after parting ways with his first wife Geeta - it was always men in the industry who ended a relationship. Cut to the present - it's the leading babes calling it quits, not satisfied with a measly arm candy status. "They no longer want to be victims. Unlike the past when a divorced actress was looked upon as an, 'on sale to bed item,' these days the personal life of a heroine doesn't affect her star status. The perception of society has completely changed. So leading ladies prefer dumping a stale mate rather than sulking in a dead bond," adds Kakar. Take for example, the femme-fatal Kareena and Katina, who're taking charge to end their obsessive affairs. If it is Saif's possessiveness that's making Bebo claustrophobic, Katrina is on the verge of dumping Salman for his interfering ways and alchoholism. Be it Saif's objection to Bebo's kissing scene with Hollywood actor Sylvester Stallone on the sets of Kambakht Ishq or Salman creating a fuss over Katrina's closeness with co-star Akshay Kumar or her signing Rajkumar Santoshi's film opposite Shahid Kapoor - the leading ladies are already feeling claustrophobic and are ready to win back their personal freedom. According to the grapevine, Bebo advised Saif to get more broadminded and stop hounding her on the sets. Katrina too is no longer willing to play dumb. She's shown the world that she was visibly upset with Salman for his infamous brawl with King Khan on her birthday party on 16th July. Says bindaas babe Pooja Bedi, "Gone are the days when a girl was expected either to be a daughter or a wife. There existed nothing in between those two relations. But today, there's no such stigma attached and a woman can make her own life choices. After all, you always find the right man after meeting many wrong men. Also, there's no point to stick to a relation, which is giving you pain and problems and nothing else." Priyanka Chopra too is playing smart cookie. Before the world could stamp them as 'item' (though she and Harman were every bit a hot property), Piggy Chops preferred to shaft her Love Story 2008 with Harman Baweja. Apparently Priyanka said 'no' point blank when Harman invited her for a weekend holiday. Even in the Shilpa Shetty-Raj Kundra split it was Shilpa taking charge. Tired of the 'home-wrecker' tag, she seemed happier with the 'just-friends' label. Last but not the least, the apparently smooth affair of actress Amrita Arora with London based cricketer Usmaan Afzal came to a dead end when Arora decided she'd had enough of the long distance lullaby. Though we don't know Usman's fate, Amrita is back to action with 23-year-old Shakeel Ladak - the new man in her life. But how easy is to part ways and move ahead? Answers, actress Kim Sharma, who has moved ahead post her three-year relationship with cricketer Yuvraj Singh opines, "None of the two options come easy. But still one has to realise that the world has not ended as yet and there's still hope." So has she found her new hope? "I'm enjoying my single status rite now," replies Kim. As for the public image, Pooja adds, "Break-ups don't affect a star's public image, but the heart. They leave behind a baggage of memories, emotions and moments that one has to deal with and move on. If at all the public is concerned, they will always be happy to see the celebs single again only to strike back and churn some more gossip." Well, we sure do hope the season of spats culminates in a spring of love for Bollywood's star crossed couples. http://www.thehimalayantimes.com/GuffShuff.asp?filename=6a1Ta0a8go2am8&folder=aGDafTaSah4afaf&Name=GuffShuff&dtSiteDate=20080811 |
