i think they will get married and bellas definately going to become a vampire in the book so really one can;t happen without the other. also edward and bella are meant to be as she even explained to jacob that though she loved him too with edward her love for him for like sam and emilys she couldnt help it and also because she told edward that she couldn't live without him, so if stephanie was to write a different ending it would contradict her earlier writing and it would be pointless for her to write twilight from edwards perspective in her next novel since if bella ends up with jacob then it wouldn't be an epic love story anymore and it swift the focus from edward onto bella and jacob instead. the only reason her preface is confusing is because stephanie wants there to be suspence regarding whether bella will end up with edward so that more people wil read breakign dwan but ultimatelly the ending will be happy just like hp where jk rowling left harrys fate a mystery but in the end harry didn't die.
