I watched some Mahasangaman clips... I cannot believe that Pandian-Gomathi, whom I consider to be toxic parents, are actually good ones when compared to Suresh's parents. At least the father got retired recently, so he has been somewhat productive till now, but the mother is useless, jobless, and judgmental like hell.
I get that they show the parents like that so that DILs are shown modern, progressive, and then change the patriarchal mindsets, but still, it is pathetic to watch on screen. This MIL is like the judge MIL in real life, who got arrested yesterday for abetting and killing her DIL. The judge complained that her dead DIL did not water her dear plants. For sure, Suresh's mother would complain if Malar fell sick and had to rest, stating who would feed her dear children, water the plants, or wash the vessels. Useless woman!
I too watched Mahasangam, Gomathi was indeed a breath of fresh air in that toxic environment. I agree Pandian-Gomathi are much better characters than Azhagae-Azhagu inlaws ( don’t even feel like taking their names. MIL looks evil, acts evil, spews venom and she us fully evil personified. Andha moonjikku thaanum innu oru ponnu vechirikom, avalukku ippadi oru mamiya kidaicha enna nadakumnu puriya kooda illai, avalavu muttal andh jenmam. FIL actor has only acted as a villain in the movies in the 80s and 90s, how can he ever be portrayed be as a good guy.
Also coming to Bhagyaraj and Suresh - worst husbands. “ Kobdavan seriya iruntha koorai yeri payalam” nu oru pazhamozhi irukku. Inga Malarum seri, Mathiyum seri husbands seriya illama, support pannama evalavu kashta padraanga. Why are the writers showing such toxic relationships with idiotic romance (especially between Malar and Bhagyaraj) when the hisband cannot stand up for his wife.
Suresh, Police illa, porukki yaatum nadathukiraan. Police Stationla Ivana nambi oru dowry case vandha ponnoda vazhkai thaan naasama poidum.
Women - Malar, Mathi or Revathi- no one has any self respect. I understand Malar and Revathi are doormats, but I thought Mathi started out to be fierce personality now has been subdued to suit the Male Chauvinistic, patriarchal, sexist storyline. Her dialogues these days are not string, forceful and lacks substance.
I am a married woman, have been married for many years with 2 kids- best thing that happened in my marriage was my MIL - she is still alive but has become old and started to have dementia now. I thank God everyday for giving me the best MIL in this life. I will even place her at a higher pedestal than my FIL or my husband. This is the kind of MIL I want every girl in India to have. Unfortunately, it doesn’t happen, doesn’t matter if MIL comes from an educated BG or not, rich or poor. I think its the upbringing, thought process (thinking) and character that defines a great MIL.
It’s unfortunate to see a retired Judge who was responsible for her DIL’s death. She just was a monster to her DIL, period.
