Very well written. All characters have an aura of intrigue.

What's a test case? Why does Parmita want to be one?

And why did Mahi turn cold...

Need more of Dev.

Thanks. Test case is recreating an online version of dead relative virtually through artificial intelligence. Parmita signed up to get Dev's AI version created by feeding her memories of him and his character traits in the software.

Chapter 3

Mahaswin's POV

Finally Parmita recognised me. I was wondering why it took her this longer when I recognised her the moment I heard her shouting- STOP. I was shocked to see how much she had changed. She was always so innocent, shy, looking fragile like a snowflake causing everyone to undermine her quiet strength. Now she had dark circles under her eyes which were lifeless. She had put on some weight which honestly looked good on her and if you were looking at her for the first time, you'll find her beautiful. Only those who knew her fifteen years ago would realise she had become just a brittle shell of her old self. Only when she told me that Dev Bhaiyya was dead, I sensed life stirring in her. Her eyes were beseeching to find comfort in my words, but she didn't realize the old Mahi she was looking for had died twelve years ago. I had no time or energy to devote to things that didn't bring my company profit. The only person I cared about my daughter, Brishti.

"Dad!" I heard Brishti's whining voice.

"Hmm, bolo," I replied, putting my laptop in sleep mode. I never took a break from work except when Brishti was with me. Before her, all this money was just ash cinders for me.

"You told the driver to refuse me taking to the club with my friends," Brishti pouted.

I sighed and stood up from my chair, going near Brishti, "And why should I allow my fifteen year old kid to shady places like clubs, bars etc?"

"Look at yourself," Brishti sneered, "What are you? Even a sixty year old won't refer to a club as a 'shady place'. Were you this boring even when you was eighteen? Maybe that's why..."

I just smiled and said, "Completely valid point, Baccha. Still you're not going to club." I know it would drive Brishti mad to see me perfectly calm even after her provoking me. Well, she was my daughter and I loved her but if Brishti thought she could get what she wanted even if it's harmful for her by playing with my mind, I had no qualms in letting her know that I could play with hers even better.

"I hate you, Dad," Brishti stomped her feet. Knowing my daughter in and out, I know she would not simply sit by. Secretly she would fool the house-help and escape to the club taking an auto-rickshaw. She got wilfulness from her mother. Actually I was not that worried about her hanging out, but she had befriended spoilt rich kids in their mid-twenties and it was really unsafe to let her hang out with grownups.

******

3rd person POV

Brishti was congratulating herself on how cleverly she fooled the house-help and would enjoy with her friends at the club and get back home without her dad knowing. She couldn't wait to finally come of age, and be free completely, but until then she had to be content with only hanging out with grown-ups and getting a glimpse of their magical world.

"Hi!" She shouted to her friend who was visibly too smitten by a tall guy in raven black jacket and displaying her flirting powers with a vengeance.

"Hey!" This time Brishti said a little louder. She didn't like being ignored.

"Hello princess!" It was the tall guy who spoke instead turning towards her.

Brishti was mortified looking at his face, "D...D...Dad! What are you doing here?" Her Dad was looking really dashing and young. He was wearing contacts instead of glasses and he didn't look a bit out of place in the crowd. Well, he was young, actually and for the first time, Brishti realized it was actually her, who didn't belong here, in the club. A guy who was Brishti's friend offered Brishti a drink and Brishti took it.

"Brishti!" Mahaswin said sharply.

"Chill dad!" Brishti said, "It's just a cocktail."

Mahaswin's eyes were on Brishti the whole time even when one of her friends asked him for a dance.

Suddenly there was a loud noise and someone said, "No one will leave this place!"

Brishti ran towards Mahaswin in fear and stood beside him completely forgetting her cool girl act.

Police had entered the club blocking the exit and searching each person's things for...

When Brishti's purse was checked, the female cop pulled out a brown packet and told her superior, "I got the drugs."

Brishti's face was white. "W...what?" Brishti started crying, "D...Dad I don't k...k...know what they're talking about. I have never taken..."

"Brishti, calm down!" Mahaswin said, "Inspector! If she had been taking or dealing with drugs, her fingerprints would be on the packet. Isn't it so? Why don't you take her fingerprint samples and match them with those found on the packet?"

"Inspector Sir," Brishti's friend who was flirting with Mahaswin called the cop, "Brishti...she takes drugs. She's addicted to them."

"I won't leave you bloody moron," Brishti pushed her friend to the ground and slapped her many times.

"Sir please take a drug test of Brishti," the girl said, lying on the floor, "Her blood sample would have traces of drug."

"How many times will I have to say I don't do drugs?" Brishti shouted, holding inspector by his collar.

"Brishti, leave his collar," Mahaswin said in a low voice.

Brishti didn't comply.

"I don't like repeating myself Brishti and you know it very well."

Brishti left the Inspector's collar.

"If you weren't a minor, I would have shown a rich spoilt kid like you her proper place," the inspector said with indignation.

"Sir I apologise on behalf of her," Mahaswin said, his head low.

"And who are you?"

"I'm her father, Sir," Mahaswin told, "I would just like to suggest why don't you take blood samples of everyone involved here. It may be possible Brishti has an accomplice."

"Dad!"

"You have already done enough, Brishti," Mahaswin said with a fake smile, "Now let me handle this my way."

"You're right," the inspector said arching his eyebrow, "Aren't you a bit young to be his father? Anyways, you seem responsible and your point is valid."

The blood samples were taken and Brishti's friends were grinning at her.

"I'll claw their eyes out," Brishti hissed.

"With your handcuffed hands, Hmm?" Mahaswin taunted.

The test results came. Each name was announced with drug concentration in their blood samples.

"Brishti Goswami!" A cop announced, "No drug trace."

Brishti hugged her Dad and burst into tears. When her friends names were called with the drug concentration, they were detained. As they were being taken out of the club into the police van, they looked at Mahaswin wondering how no drug trace was found in her system despite spiking her drink and instead it was found in their blood stream as if it were a magic trick.

"It's all right, Baccha," Mahaswin patted Brishti's hair, and then extracting himself from her tight hug, he asked, "Chalein? Ya abhi aur rukna h yahaan?"

Brishti shook her head. Mahaswin laid his left arm over Brishti's shoulder and exited the club.

Thanks Rekha :) Parmita has lost her fiancé Dev who was also her childhood love in an accident. So she's reeling from depression due to grief. While Mahaswin's sufferings are due to one bas decision by him.
