Tangentially related, but I think given how everyone here cites reddit articles and social media chatter as a source and screams PR at everything, should read through Blake Lively's lawsuit published in NYT today and read though the texts of PR agents laughing at how easily manipulated people were into hating Blake over absolute nothing burger issues.

I don't think anyone was brainwashed into hating BL. She was rude and uncouth throughout the promotion of that movie and ofcourse during that interview with Parker Posey. Did the other guy get that journalist to release that interview just in time ( so to speak ) to turn the public against her ? Maybe. Still doesn't excuse her behaviour. Lets not forget she's someone who told her fans to get their florals out and waltz into the theatre to have fun watching a movie supposedly about domestic abuse.

The thing is that most people would never have seen all these astroturfed comments and think pieces about her which made them form that opinion or at the very least would never have seen enough of her even if we assume the opinions were independent. Like celebrities go on tone deaf marketing campaigns all the time. And just like im Livelys case, it was part of the studio marketing strategy. I am sure as a producer she had a say in it, but it was also not clearly just her doing. It was a standard MBA suits focus group decision to pitch it like Barbie.

I think a lot of us are not just willing to admit we get so easily manipulated by PR exercises (both good and bad) when we all like to think we know everything about PR.

Wholeheartedly agree with the manipulating of opinions...social media platforms are the perfect tools and human minds the perfect targets as there are no boundaries to stupidity and bias.

Unfortunately regular media join hands with social media...journalistic ethics have become pearls in the swamp...
