Agreed!! Firstly this show was never meant to be a ITV show. The concept is such a bold one which is purely a OTT product. If it would have been telecasted on Sony it would have been nice.An impatient channel like Colors doesn't deserve to air such type of shows.
While I don't necessarily have any affinity with any channel anymore given the kinda trash they promote in their mainstream shows, I still do think it is always important to bring such topics to the forefront to make people realise how narrow-minded this so-called modern society has become and to actually find out/read on and learn about such social issues to reconsider the bias we have been fed like poison through the years, which makes us rank others lower on the basis of their gender identities. There was an article that came out saying this is against Indian सभ्यता (decency) and there were thousands of likes and quotes on this asking for a ban, but let's recap and think about how transgenders were very much part of our culture even before British came to India and determined what is right and wrong according to their English law. Our religious texts, our cultural motifs mention them as being part of our history. This kinda stuff opens up those conversations even in the basic of households and might potentially help those who are gender fluid or identify otherwise than their biological sex.
Balika Vadhu was a game changer for Colours TV, and till date when you watch it, you do find yourself thinking about the necessity for abolishing child marriages due to its related consequences. So it is technically not that the channel has not produced any merit-worthy content, it is just not the same team anymore taking care of the decision-making and adherence of Article 19(1)(a) - Freedom of Speech & Expression has now become more dependent on the local political scenario rather than the courts.
As for whether Colours airs it, or Sony TV or Sab TV or even Star Plus, especially after the COVID pandemic, all of them have become involved with money making to the point that they will blindly close down shows or abruptly change the entire plot just to stay afloat. At the end of the day, money talks, and everyone will obviously be more concerned about their own livelihoods than social change. The only benefit of showcasing it on the app as an iTV instead of the physical tv is that even if it caters to the same audience, it does not need to adhere to the BARC trp method anymore and can possibly explore what it was intended for.
