Hard agree with the post. I think when Gauri Shinde wrote the role, she had particularly an older actress like Kat on her mind. The movie focuses on a woman who has a career and has been in failed relationships. This mid life crisis and depressive reckoning doesn't come until someone is in their late 20s. The role demanded maturity and a dejected outlook on life which only comes with age. Kat would have been perfect for it. Or even any older actress.

Alia, on the other hand, turned the role into someone having had their first relationship and breaking up afterward. It was cute, which was not what it was meant to be. Due to her being younger and lacking nuance, the plot was directed to aid her strengths. Big loss.

With an older actress last scene of chair creaking would be an addition, abhi to it is embarrassing that Jug fell in love with Kaira

Kaira was supposed to be a character like this, one with experiences with men and people judge her, someone hot for whom people fall

Yeah. Not just that, the gif is sped x2. In actual scene, the movements are far slower and make sense. That's why it looks particularly comical. Not saying DP is the actor of the year, but judging her acting by an edited gif should hardly be the barometer.

Thank you both. It really irritates me that whenever Alia is called out for her lack of crying abilities in literally every film she cries in, someone brings up that Deepika gif like it means something. Besides being edited, it's one instance of her crying when she has countless other crying scenes which have been praised and are authentic.

I don't think alia connected with the character in the movie. I think dp should've did this film since it was about mental health. But I know kat was the original choice for this film, not sure why director thought kat was the first choice since kat is good at romantic comedy movie, I thought she was the wrong choice for this film since she can't show emotions well so if I had to choose between kat or alia for dz than alia but alia was a miscast for dz. Alia does not know how to cry well on screen and she even knows that.

When alia's sisters was talking about mental health, she never understood what they were going through which I thought alia was the wrong choice for this movie. She is not a good actress to make the character believable.

I had no idea this role was originally meant for Kat. Actually I do think she could have pulled it off. Whatever people say about her acting, there are certain types of roles she's very proficient in and she's always had screen charisma which has never been true for Alia since day one and hasn't changed more than a decade later.

If not Katrina, I can also see Deepika playing it. Like you said, Deepika has experience with mental illness and she was sublime in Gehriyaan. A film which was actually #1 in terms of OTT films despite a mass media campaign to discredit the film and her performance. Dear Zindagi would have been made for Deepika.

Basically I think any actress could have more or less pulled it off save for the actual actress we did get.

Is this an actual scene from a film or footage of her in real life from some sort of public interview? Whatever it is, it looks so staged and fake. No tears and her facial reactions look more like she's laughing.

I truly blame Karan Johar for the decline in Bollywood and this woman-child up there is a large reason why.

Alia fans always shock me at how underhanded they are. They know their stan is deficient in every way so they have to resort to these sorts of cheap tricks to demean others in order to prop her up.

I don't see kat playing this role because she can't act. Kat is beautiful though. But yes dp because of how she is associated with the character in real life would've been real life role for her.

Kat played similar role in Zero.. atleast Kiara would have looked mature. Seeing alia as kaira felt like watching a 13yr old girl

I tried watching the clip but I couldn't even get halfway through before I had to close it. Not even for SRK can I rewatch this film.

In fact, I'm angry at SRK because I only watched this film for him so I blame him for this. For all the SRK haters on here who claim I defend his every action and never have anything bad to say about him, they can experience my first negative post about him because of my being forced to endure this film.

Knowing we could have had Katrina (or literally any other actress) makes it more bittersweet.
