"Privilege did not exist for people we like."
Exhibit - 1.
How were they brought up?
I am sure Rajesh Khanna started working 9-5 as a company worker because he played a union leader in Namak Haram and did not at all sabotage Anju Mahendru's career.
I am sure everyone at NSD gets to act in as many movies as an MP's daughter like Smita, and Kaifi Azmi's daughter. I am sure producers were just completely naïve about their backgrounds.
Sharmila belongs to bhadralokest of bhadralok families, people should read how she got discovered by Satyajit Ray as a kid lol
Rani and Kajol literally belong to a family with three nepo lines and two og production houses thrown in. The oldest generation of the Ganguly-Mukherjees were bhadralok barristers before independence. The oldest of Samarths was Rattan Bai. Kajol isn't as great as Tanuja or even Nutan but continued to get cringe roles in the 90s. But sure, she wasn't mollycoddled (and was raised differently despite being famous for being a rude brat lol).
By your admission, these were hardworking talented people despite having very nepotistic roots. So, why the hatred for Alia/Ranbir/Ranveer/Abhishek? By all accounts, they have some talent and are hardworking. Hardwork and talent doesn't cancel out nepotism, does it?
Bollywood has always been a feudalistic, shitty place where nepotism and/or class-caste privilege are prominent. Unless you are acknowledging the latter, the rage against former sounds hollow af.
Yep rajesh khanna was a bad man but i am saying he was not a bad actor like suhana and nepos of 2023. He was competing with rajendra kumar, raj kumar, dilip kumar, devanand, amitabh and jeetendra and the likes for roles. If he got a chance still it means he knew acting. I was not comparing anyone personal life
sure shabana nd smita got extra favours but they had qualification. Its like ambani kids doing MBA from US universiy. Did any 2023 nepo go to any good acting school? Look at suhana dance how horrible even two feet sunny deol would not dance so horribly forget any lady actress. Where is effort to learn simple dance steps these are not michael jackson or bartanatyam steps that take long to master? And her dilaogue delivery is awful. Can you say same about smita and shaban a in first movie pls they put effort and than came on screen. Suhana is like MBBS students who get 35% and pay 2 crore and come on management seats and become doctors than land their future patients in trouble or death by wrong diagnosis and have no consequences as indian laws do not act against such doctors.
I cannot comment on 90s karishma/kajol/rani/raveena they all were bad in starting movies took 5 to 7 years to improve yet were not so bad as the current nepos. Baziggar was kajol 2nd movie and yet she danced nicely if not acted. SRK did all acting in that movie i liked Shilpa Shetty acting more in Bazigaar than over acting Kajols.
Should we in 2020s still not give jobs on merit in bollywood? Thats the que. Forget 1960s and 1990s, they were medival patrichial biased times. So should 2023 remain same? When will bollywood give chance to real talent? We are having horrible acting, songs, music, singing in bollywood. Songs are being copied from 80s and 90s because even musicians and directors have no competency to create new. Thats the que? When will original content come in bollywood? Is badshah and honey singh and neha kakkar fit to be singers?
In 1990s only 50% were nepos rest 50% were outsiders now 90% nepos and only 10% outsiders and outsiders do not get big banner movies like 90s. Can a akshay kumar or SRK or sunil shetty get a movie in 2023 or a juhi chawla? Or a madhuri or sridevi in 2023? How many talented are not getting chance because producers are only taking nepos and not allowing outsiders?
Compare bollywood to south india or marathi cinema many outsiders do get chance be it actress or actors or directors and musicians. In all 5 industry outsiders are in plenty. Yash in kannada is outsider, dhanush is outsider bef he became rajnikant son in law, same for malyalam and telugu, marathi industry. Most heroines are outsiders not from family. Directors are outsiders musicians are outsiders so still some quality remains in work. Atleast some new concept and movies come thanks to outsider visions.

The most important take away from your posts, Blue (althoug I would replace "shitty" with "dirty"...it says more about business practices in every field of filmbusiness).
Generally, filmbusiness/showbusiness is dirty, hierarchic etc. all over the world...it deals with money and with people (but fortunately also with art and culture).
To me, it always has been about merit and dedication to the work...I don't care neither for nepotism nor for the nepotism debate.
What a person makes out of the possibilities and chances he/she gets, that is my interest.
Vedang may do the networking as much as possible (he got known through social media (YouTube) and now gets chances to broaden his horizon), eventually it will be about his values, choices and work ethics.
in india getting job and maintaining it is how much you suck up to bosses(director/Production houses) and please them (whether IT company or bollywood its same)
Values, ethics do not matter as shown in 90s where all sort of under cutting happened.
No but what reviews are ya’ll reading where Suhana is the best thing since sliced bread?
the internet is absolutely ripping in to her, but ya’ll wanna believe the armchair critics.

or better, be an accountant and fck up the accounts, have the auditors come in and fine you, let’s see what sucking up to your boss does then. Kuch bhi.🙄if only real life worked like Bollywood where you could be absolute trash in a SOTY but still be given countless opportunities to “hone your craft”.Originally posted by: myviewprem

"Privilege is okay if it is backed by 'merit.' We will absolutely forget that it requires money to cultivate the said 'merit.'
Exhibit 2.
Lol, basically what you are saying is nepotism is acceptable if the person is talented? That makes the anti-nepotism rage hollow and useless. Like I had earlier said, it is not about equalising the playing field for everyone, it is about making space for other privileged outsiders while maintaining the status quo.
Suhana, Ananya, xyz gen Z nepo do not have anything on the sort of nepo backing Rani, Kajol, Nutan, Tanuja had lol.Name your top bolly actresses of 90s, more than 50% of them were nepo and the rest came from equally privileged caste-class backgrounds. If I ask you to name 10 Dalit/Adivasi/Muslim/ Christian "outsiders" today, you would scramble your head.
Madhubala, Meena Kumari, Dilip Kumar etc had to change their names in the 50s-60s lol.
Bold : you unironically said southern industries are less nepotistic than Bollywood and cited bachelor Dhanush as an example when he literally is Kasthuri Raja's son.

You might want to brush up on your vocab skills. Real critics are giving her good reviews. The internet loons (full of rage, jealousy and pirated copies) are called armchair critics. They will go to extinction just like the loser SSR bots. No useless rage spewers of this type have any grand effect especially in the long term.
If these types of crackheads mattered, most of their faves wouldn't be finished has-beens. These are the types that will try to farm retweets and likes with hilarious fantasies of how Neena Gupta should be paired up with Hrithik or whatever. The types that keep crying for that never-happening Jee Le Zara type of movie that nobody would actually watch. BW fandoms desperately trying to look cool online don't actually behave that way in the real world.
And btw, BW is not a government that it has to provide anything for anyone. These are individual producers and directors who use their own money or take risks getting financing from outside which they have to provide returns on. They owe nobody anything. Throwing tantrums and demanding their money/movies for random people isn't going to change a single thing. They will only use their personal resources on what they want. If you're so hurt, just don't watch the movie. If you ran to watch it, you gave them what they wanted so they already won.
As far as Netflix goes, India has a very small subscriber base so it's pretty hard to believe any and every random joe even had access to the movie unless they were pirating it. So again, if they were that desperate to watch it, the mission was already accomplished. They can keep spewing online post the fact but it won't have any effect.
