Criticism of a movie is every viewers' right, but demanding or wishing to stop someone from showing their art because it doesn't sit well with your point of view or ideals is just so plain stupid. This is extremism disguised as intellectual elitism.
Who here is saying that bad/problematic art cannot be made? But saying that someone should be able to make something that demonises a marginalised group in public psyche without any backlash because it's their freedom of speech is a massive massive blindspot towards your own privilege.
In a country where women, men, and non-binary folks die due to the lack of menstrual healthcare, where litlte girls are pulled out of school as soon as they hit menarche, clips of a damn popular actor berating women for wearing pads is going viral on social media. Social media where A-certification doesn't mean shit. Is it going viral because Ranbir was oscar-worthy? Is the full context of the film provided in the viral clips with a discretion to separate real from real?
And people are invalidating any accountability as "it's just a film," delusion," "woke lecture," and "intellectual elitism" all to defend men who are actually socially and financially elite. Lol.
