"May the gold come to…": Kareena Kapoor has one wish as Daayra faces Kunal Kemmu’s Vibe at box office

Kareena Kapoor is unfazed by the box-office face-off between her upcoming crime thriller Daayra and Vibe, the comedy starring her brother-in-law Kunal Kemmu. Both films are scheduled to release in theatres on September 18, putting the two actors and their projects in direct competition over the same weekend. However, Kareena believes there is enough space for both films to find their audience.

Kareena Kapoor Has No Fear About Vibe Clash

At the trailer launch of Daayra in Mumbai on Monday, August 31, Kareena was asked about the unusual clash and whether having two films from the same family release together could impact their box-office prospects.

The actress was quick to back Kunal and showered praise on his comic abilities. She made it clear that she sees Vibe as a completely different experience from Daayra and does not consider the film a threat to her project.

Kareena said, 

I think Kunal is an outstanding actor. One of the best we have in our industry. No one does comic timing like Kunal. I feel there's place in cinema for two great films, two wonderful films. And I know Vibe is going to do well. It's going to be fun, it's going to be comedy. And people are going to see a different side to Kunal. And may the gold come to my house only (laughs). So I'm very happy and I'm very, very sure that both films are going to do very well.

Daayra vs Vibe

Directed and co-written by Meghna Gulzar, Daayra is a crime thriller inspired by true events. Kareena stars opposite Prithviraj Sukumaran, with both actors playing police officers.

Kareena portrays DCP Ajooni Kohli, while Prithviraj plays DCP Raman Kumar. The story revolves around a gang-rape investigation and delves into questions surrounding crime, justice and punishment. The film also marks Kareena and Prithviraj’s first collaboration on screen.

On the other side of the September 18 battle is Vibe, written and directed by Kunal Kemmu. The actor also leads the film alongside Preity Zinta. The movie follows two ordinary friends who are struggling to keep their own lives together when they unexpectedly discover a terrorist conspiracy. With little preparation and even less experience, the duo suddenly finds themselves caught up in a mission to protect the country.

While Daayra promises a tense and serious crime drama, Vibe is positioned as a comedy with an unlikely-action twist. With both films offering vastly different genres, Kareena is betting that audiences will turn up for both when they arrive in cinemas on September 18.
