I haven't been to Ram mandir, but I have been to Shirdi Sai Baba, Tirupati Balaji, Siddhivinayak and Vaishnodevi. From what I recall some of the temples are free, but if you want VIP entry then you pay a fee. I think we had to pay for a ticket for Tirupati Balaji, but recall Siddhivinayak and Sai Baba being free. This was many years ago tho, so I could be wrong. I am assuming there is a fee to visit Ram mandir based on the news posted.

I thought Vidushaks were supposed to self-aware of their insignificance?

Prob temple is free, but you can skip lines with VIP entry.

I can't imagine anything else being okay.

I am ok with collecting a basic fee and provide people with some basic amenities like food, hygienic environment and more organized queues etc. Popular temples are sometimes a nightmare to visit. Recently been to Haridwar, Rishikesh and couldn’t help but come to this conclusion. In comparison the South Indian temples are much better organized.
