I'm reading this movie has a budget of 600crs and wondering how is this possible after watching it.
The vfx looked like it was meant to be done in the cheapest way as possible, even video game have better graphics than some of the action scenes. Costumes ?? probably not because Ram & Laxman didn't wore any armor and Raavan was wearing a 500rs. wali T-shirt beneath his little armor.
Only possible explanation can be Prabhas & Saif taking huge fee for the movie, but most likely it's the makers who have taken up a healthy amount themselves while keeping the balance sheet costs of 600crs.

I do have an unpopular opinion regarding it , I think Prabhas was pretty decent as Lord Ram or atleast looked much more bearable than Saif's Delhi ka party animal wala Raavan & Kriti's mediocre portrayal of Sita.

The budget generally makes no sense. VFX can be very expensive even if it is bad. But at 600 Cr, the budget is close to 75 million USD. The new Super Mario and Spiderman only cost 100 million. So the budget is not too far. How could the animation work be so shoddy. Rajnikanth's Kochadaiyaan came out almost a decade ago, cost a quarter as much and still looked better. Ayan had a lot more going on in Brahmastra and shooting at location is a lot more costly and he still wrapped it up in less than that. Basically, either they paid Prabhas 300 Cr or something to compensate him for embarrassing himself or they lied. I think it's the latter.

I agree vfx is a slippery slope …even when shoddy, it takes humongous time and effort and resources that literally drain the money out of the project …

Film makers who are clever at planning and budgeting will never entirely rely on vfx for visuals….they will have sets , props constructed for majority of the shoot and mostly only use vfx for background work, Ariel shots , expanding backgrounds, animals etc

That’s what rajamouli did with RRR and baahubali, even mani ratnam with ps series…they shot in actual forests, snowy mountains , lakes, palace interior and exterior sets..

Films look so much better that way….that’s what stops them from r looking like a video game and people disconnecting with it entirely

Rana daggubati (bhallaladev) from baahubali used to have his own vfx company back in 2006 and eventually sold it to prime focus because it wasn’t profitable …he said he was frustrated with the business because producers wouldn’t pay the actual money for the vfx work coz it’s too expensive and there is no way to reduce the costs there

Prabhas ka kaam tha initial weekend numbers lekar aana with his stardom and he did. When he signed the movie it probably looked great on paper turned out to be a joke. The budget is definitely not 600 cr they inflated it by doubling it.

2014, Prime Focus merged with the London based company Double Negative and the merged company was rebranded as DNEG which has now branches in Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore. They were roped in to better the VFX of Brahmastra and now were hired to do the Adipurush VFX.

As DNEG is a very renowned VFX company, they certainly are very expensive...

Money laundering.

Reports were that Prabhas and Saif did charged a huge sum but dont think it would've gone above 75-80crs. at maximum

Prabhas and Saif are such miscasts for this role. I specifically hate Prabhas as Ram.

What were the makers thinking
