I don’t think she was raised as any particular religion really. Her marriage ceremony was in full Hindu traditions probably by the Kapoors’ request. Yes her name is Muslim as is her sister’s, Shaheen. I think the girls were given Muslim names because Mahesh wanted to practice his multiculturalism. Mahesh Bhatt didn’t want to divorce Pooja’s mom when he and Soni got serious so he used his mother being a Muslim to be able to take a second wife. They might have pulled a Hema and Dharmendra for marriage purposes, but they are not practicing Muslims by any means, although Mahesh Bhatt acknowledges and respects his mother’s faith. There’s a framed up Ya Ali writing on the wall in the Bhatt family home. Soni’s dad is a Kashmiri Hindu Pandit and her mom is a European Christian. Christmas is the only holiday the Bhatt household really celebrates. I’ve never seen or read anything about them celebrating Diwali or Eid.
