[For 90s Lovers] What is your favorite movie of the year 1996?
Although 1996 was not that happening of an year unlike 1995 and especially 1994, also the QUALITY of the movies released that year decreased, but still was a good year at the box office.
It gave Aamir and Karishma their career's (of that time) biggest hit in RH which happened to be a BB and biggest hit of 1996 as well, got BB mainly due to wonderful songs and simplistic direction.
SLB entered into Bollywood with Khamoshi.
Sushmita Sen debuted with Dastak.
It was Salman's brother Arbaaz Khan's debut as well with Daraar.
Raveena came back into the game with KKK after a bad year 1995.
A very bad year for SRK though as all of his films bombed after a glorious 1995 which gave him DDLJ his biggest hit till this date.
Karishma and Govinda kept giving comical hits.
Tabu found a good balance of commercial hit & critical acclaim with SCS and Maachis.
This year saw the most controversial movie FIRE based on a lesbian relation ship of nand &bhabhi.
1996 saw the last movie "Hahakaar" of actress Chandni (Sanam Bewafa' fame) before she got married and settled down in the USA permanently.
1996 was also a last year in the Bollywood for the much successful Meenakshi Shashadri, with her swan song Ghatak, a hit at the box-office.
Manisha delivered year's 2nd biggest hit Agni Sakshi.
But for Madhuri it was her career's worst year post Teezab in 1998 when she has not delivered any single hit movie, and that put a break on her wonderful boxoffice record, also affected her position.
In short 1996 although not a path breaking, but was a profitable year.

Personally, this is my LEAST FAVORITE year from the 90s decade with a cringy boring regressive biggest hit of the year RH, and all other films (except khamoshi n maachis which was an art movie) were not that entertaining or memorable as well.
(Most favorite was 1994 in 90s due to HAHK, AAA and due to my most favorite stars got their best year in 1994, salman, madhuri and raveena...also there were so many other memorable and interesting films got released in 1994, so many hits as well)
1996 was just blah for me.

There was not much of a competition anyways in 1996...most films were lack luster and not that interesting.
I am not really crazy about her, but I give credit where it is due. This song was meant for Miss Rai, but Deepika looked graceful and carried it...
