I think Shahid Kapoor is pretty versatile and talented as well. He just doesn’t have the box office record that matches his talent unfortunately.

On topic, I would imagine Ranbir always wanted to be a superstar. Masala movies weren’t the rage in the past 10-15 years the way they were in the 90s. So just as CrimeMasterToto said, doing non-masala films was the norm for Bollywood, still is actually. It’s just that with successes of some south masala movies in Hindi now everyone is rethinking and wondering if a comeback of traditional masala films is needed. Anyway, I don’t think he did the kind of movies that he did because he was being another Harsh Kapoor and thinking that’s where his “talent” should be focused. Ranbir planned his career with the full intention of succeeding and becoming a star. It’s another story that his plans didn’t work out. Perhaps CMT is right again, he needed to do more than 18 movies in 15 years.

basically he thought "performance" oriented films are sophisticated and mass masla is for the dehatis so they gave up that space except a few like akshay, ajay, hrithik who actually started with these movies and ranveer (who did rohit shetty's film)

even salman balanced a dabang with prem ratan and bajrangi,

lekin ab yeh hua ki films ki like rocket singh if done today will go to OTT, also as you all said even rajkumar, ayushman, vicky etc are doing more higher performance oriented films

and beech mein KGF, came and these ppl think hitting big numbers needs that kind of film

but as sanjay dutt keeps saying, they shouldnt have ceded the space, it will not be easy to recover after all these years

ideally you should never give up an advantage and keep building variety and balance all mass masala+ other genres

anyway too late, if you want to reach the top you have to be a trendsetter not a follower

bad planning

now trying to get single screen audience back

But will he stop with his ridiculous offscreen persona...no I don't think so

Not trying to start yet another argument, but Ranveer is not super intelligent. He's not even average intelligent. He just looks it in comparison to his contemporaries.

He came across as articulate and well spoken to me during his initial days -- that's before he turned into a brandwhore who will slip into anything as long as it has the super flashy and attention seeking Gucci and Versace prints.

and he used to behave and keep his hands to himself before without invading others personal space, with the same energy level as now. I like energetic people with good vibes and that's what he was. Lord knows why he acts like a Ritalin pumped kindergartner everywhere now, and lately, he's just gone overboard to the max.

When people don't bring their authentic self to the table, it shows ... and it makes me cringeeee!

Ranbir is very limited as an actor.

Most of his good performances are man child roles. He is not a mass hero, he is a multiplex actor as that he does not have a mass following.

It doesn't help that he has one movie every 2 years.

All his performances or hit movies have also come because of either a great director or a solid support cast. Till now no film has become a hit because of him alone.

He also does not have the swag required for the macho hero roles. Just look at Shamshera which could have been the next best thing but he just does not have the swag to pull it off. He looks like a kid in front of Sanjay Dutt.

Compare this to Yash or Hrithik who looked so good and had whistle moments.

He was always touted as the next big thing but to be very honest it is the industry that hyped him up than anything else.

He does not have the versatility of a Ranveer or Shahid, the macho swagger of a Hrithik or the south stars or even the honesty of Ayushman, Rajkumar or Vicky. Even Karthik seems to have a connect with the masses that is missing.

Brahmastra and Shamshera will not help him.

Animal and the luv ranjan movie can maybe help him

All that is OK. But Ranveer is about as intelligent as the rest of his contemporaries. Which is to say, not really.

Very true it is unfortunate but most are very pr driven and none of them have that wit or intelligence .

Neither Ranveer or Ranbir or Varun or any of the nepo kids are smart . Cunning yes but not intelligent. They have massive pr who help prep them

SRK is very intelligent and witty. Akshay is very street smart. Post that Rajkumar and Vicky seem to be a little on the brighter side.

Same for Sid and Karthik atleast these folks do not come across as stupid

Katrina come across as more intelligent.

I used to think Vidya was but after some of her recent interviews I don't know if it is arrogance or my perception

I agree, but then it seems like he wants to be that, unlike say other actors who accept that they have their niche and try to perform well in that space

it also seems very sudden to me, for years now he has planned releases or really done those kind of roles and now suddenly he wants that

Kjo shelled out some money on Monday for Shamshera.

On a Monday, sales tripled from Sunday LOL.

Then on Tuesday..Kjo gave up? Himesh was doing some narrative gymnastics late late night.

RK's dream of being a superstar depends on how deep Kjo's pockets are.YRF wastes no money and gives correct collections.

Let the weekend unfold..
