And yes, disha deserved appreciation too but she was also competing among some good female leads who have many more yrs of fanbase and experience on them. Like rupali. I mean sharabhai ke time se she has a loyal fanbase! Can you blame her getting an award over DP?

I meant, Jury awards SHOULD be on merit, (they do have a jury category, I believe), but they too aren’t chosen on merit, So much of politics and other stuff involved.

Correct but when u compare the ML & FL for a particular successful show, both may contribute equally but both may not win awards.

And of course, when it comes to popular awards the role also influences votes. Some roles are naturally more attractive & entertaining for the audience - Ram’s role is one such, some roles are meaningful & layered but not as entertaining for the lay audiences - Priya’s is one such.

In the Indian classical arts there is a term “janaranjak” which means appealing to the mass audience. Ram’s is a janaranjak role, Priya’s is not. I like to think of us as more thinking women, who like & enjoy Priya’s role.
