Jersey opening is 3.75 Crores. Why such low opening?

Jersey first day collection is 3.75 to 4 Crores nett. What does that mean? Shahid despite coming after the Blockbuster success of Kabir Singh, it looks like it did nothing for his career if we take opening of Jersey into account. Does that mean Shahid has no stardom and that Kabir Singh only worked because of the songs and misogyny?

Even if we believe the opening is 4 Crores nett approx, and that Shahid has no stardom, he has not given such low opening in a decade. The last time a Shahid film opened lower than Jersey was Milenge Milenge which was a delayed film and released way back in 2010. All his movies since then no matter the genre or whether they were disasters later on opened above 4 Crores.

So maybe it has nothing to do with Shahid's stardom. Jersey might have opened low because of the competition it's facing from the tsunami called KGF 2. But KGF 2 is a massy action movie, which are always front loaded. Such movies don't have long legs but still KGF 2 is trending really well in it's second week despite Jersey release.

Fans of the KGF franchise must have watched the movie in first weekend (or atleast first week if they didn't get the tickets) and now the audience which is coming to watch the movie is because of it's word of mouth. But word of mouth audience is always more interested in content films instead of masala action movies.

In that case, they should've been more interested in a movie like Jersey instead of KGF 2. Maybe, Bollywood audience is done with content or slice of life movies and are now only interested in action films. If we look at the type of movies which were Hits in the Hindi belt since the pandemic, most of them are action movies.

Sooryavanshi, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Pushpa, RRR and KGF 2 all were action films. The only exception were Kashmir Files and Gangubai Kathiawadi. We all know why TKF was such a big Hit so the only exception is really Gangubai.

Why do you think Jersey opened low?

I thought Anurag was a bit overrated in Punjabi cinema. Even though I thoroughly enjoyed Jatt and Juliet. But I am amazed no Punjabi superstar has promoted this film besides Ammy Virk. One mention of this in Diljit’s story I am sure many more Punjabis would go watch this movie. His last film set a record for Punjabi films with a 6 crore opening.

How can Jersey have a 12cr budget? It has an A-list star, it has suffered numerous delays..

34 to 40 crore according to some sites. So I could have been wrong. Should check multiple sources and not the one quoted by google I guess.

That site has the budget at 12 Million U.S. dollars which comes to just under 100cr, no? The site below also says 100cr including 31cr Shahid’s salary. However I have also read that after the delays Shahid lowered his fees. And other sites have reported the production budget at around 40cr plus whatever the cost of marketing will be, keeping in mind that they marketed this movie twice due to delays.

Ok, it came up as 12 crores quoted by google. When I first checked it a day ago. I havent seen it. I was actually just impressed based on the earnings of most 12 crore films I see.

Shahid Kapoor has no Stardom.

I mean, yes the guy can act, but he lacks that appeal to pull audience to theatres.

It's all about KGF2 and RRR right now.

There is just no hype around Jersey. It is also a remake, that has been delayed for over 18 months.

So a lot of factors have led to its failure.

I feel sad to know this… Shahid is the best of his generation…
